LAST SUNDAY'S ANSWER: The last question was a true or false about St. Alexius (Alexis).  It was false.  St. Alexis did live as a poor beggar, but he was not recognized by his parents and all who knew him.

RULES OF THE GAME

To get this started, here are the initial rules/guidelines for this activity.  A trivia question will be posted 3 times a week.  Each participant will get one point for each correct answer.   The participant with the most points will win that week.  In the event of a tie, a drawing will be held to determine the winner.   We ask that the losers pray 1 Our Father and 3 Hail Marys for the winner.

Any clarifications or additional rules will be posted soon  with the first question.   May God bless all who participate and may this thread lead to an increase in knowledge of and devotion to the many wonderful saints of our Catholic Faith.

Please check your pages for the information I post to help you answer the questions. The paragraph(s) with the answer(s) will be bold and/or italic. If you still can't figure it out, or can but need help to understand it, either find me in chat or post a message here in trivia. I want you to know/understand the information about the current saint before going on to the next.

I am going to revise the latest addition to the rules/guidelines. It will now read like this: Please check your pages for the information I post to help you answer the questions. The paragraph(s) with the answer(s) will be bold and/or italic. If you still can't figure it out, or can but need help to understand it, either find me in chat or post a message here in trivia. I want you to know/understand the information about the current saint before going on to the next.

The last question was about St. Pius X.    He is known as "the Pope of Frequent Communion", who lead the battle to conserve the faith.  He encouraged Catholics to receive our Lord in Holy Communion more often then they were.   He guarded the faith against a heresy/false teaching called Modernism.

Today we have a multiple choice questions about St. Pius V.   His feast day is May 5.    Two books he revised are the a.)Missal and Roman Martyrology  b.) Missal and Breviary   c.) Catechism and Martyrology.

b.) Missal and Breviary

b.) Missal and Breviary

Congratulations to Joseph, the winner of last weeks trivia contest. Let's all pray 1 Our Father and 3 Hail Marys for him.

The last question was about St. Pius V.  The correct answer is b)  Missal and Breviary.  When one of the books are revised, changes are made to them.  It could be adding new saints days, changing some of the prayers, etc. We know the missal is the book Father uses to pray the Mass.  The breviary is another book Father uses to pray several times a day.  It includes many psalms, short readings from other parts of the Bible, and other prayers.  The martyrology for each day lists the saints whose feasts fall on that day and has a sentence or two about them.  For example, on March 19, it says this about St. Joseph.  "In Judea, the birthday of St. Joseph, spouse of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Pius IX, yielding to the desires and prayers of the whole Catholic world, declared him Patron of the Universal Church."  Many of the other saints listed are martyrs who willing suffered death because they would not renounce (reject) their Catholic religion.

This week is going to be dedicated to the Blessed Mother and some of her feasts.   Today we will do Our Lady of the Rosary which is celebrated on October 7.  You will notice that St. Pius V is mentioned, but the question is about the rosary itself.   During each decade we pray the Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, and the Glory be while meditating on one of the mysteries.  The Scourging at the Pillar and the Carrying of the Cross are two of the ________ mysteries.  Here is the bonus question.   One of the prayers I mentioned is what our Saviour taught His Apostles when they wanted to know how to pray.  It is the ___  ______.
