Francis To Christians – “Accept The Coming Change Or Face Death”

In the next few months, the Pope is expected to release a post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation  In it he is expected to decide on the question of Communion for divorced and remarried Catholics, and on the proposal to give bishops conferences doctrinal authority. Some observers also think the pope may address the question of homosexuality and language.

An apostolic exhortation is a type of communication from the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. It encourages a community of people to undertake a particular activity but does not define Church doctrine. It is considered lower in formal authority than a papal encyclical, but higher than other ecclesiastical letters, Apostolic Letters and Other Papal Writings.

Apostolic exhortations are commonly issued in response to a synod of bishops, in which case they are known as post-synodal apostolic exhortations.

“Christians who obstinately maintain ‘it’s always been done this way,’ this is the path, this is the street—they sin: the sin of divination. It’s as if they went about by guessing: ‘What has been said and what doesn’t change is what’s important; what I hear—from myself and my closed heart—more than the Word of the Lord.’ Obstinacy is also the sin of idolatry: the Christian who is obstinate sins! The sin of idolatry. ‘And what is the way, Father?’ Open the heart to the Holy Spirit, discern what is the will of God.”

That is the translation of The Pope’s Homily of January 18th 2016

I didn't see Francis issuing a specific death warrant on anyone, like a Mafia don.  I am confused.  Is it because of the quote from Pope Innocent (mentioned in the link) and because the sin of divination is a grave sin, punishable by death?  If they were serious about divination being punishable by death, I can think of a whole lot of N.O. orders of nuns which would be wiped out by that because of their fooling around with trendy New Age type practices.  :-p

He can exhort all he wants, until he's blue in the face, but I probably won't listen to him because he has quite plainly overstepped his bounds.  I always tell my kids that as their parent, I have no authority to tell them or order them to do something sinful.  It's as simple as that for me.  If I am wrong in something, please let me know.

That was my thinking to on the death part.  What was more worrisome to me was what grave changes will be in the post synodal exhortations the Church will have to "conform" to or be accused of divination.

Yes, that crossed my mind too.  Maybe this would wake up some people about his disordered thinking......but then again, maybe not.  I am thinking of elderly relatives and some other good hearted souls I know who are too trusting, and don't see the errors.  Plus the scandals involved.  The Church truly seems to be going through the Passion of Our Lord this Lent.  :-(

This is a very grave offense against Our Dear Lord.  I will have to step up my part to do reparation.  This doesn't bode well.

I'm not a sedevacantist. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not a sedevacantist. I'm the cowardly lion.

You're right, Cathleen, the Church is walking the Via Crucis this Lent. Between the Pope's anti-Catholicism and the Bishop's seeming willingness to be absorbed into the unconverted and (is 'apostate' too strong a word?) conciliar Church we're all being scourged.

The idea of the resistance movement is tempting. But from what I've been reading from it, I get nothing but vitriol and personal attacks. Where has the good, solid CATHOLIC teaching gone? Where is it to be found?

Where do the cowards, the ignorant, the foolish--like me-- turn?

How close are you to Jacksonville Bill?

I'm several hours away. I live in Coconut Creek, south of Boca.
