NBC NEWS INTERVIEWS JOHN VENNARI ON THE SUBJECT

INTERVIEW HERE

December 12, 2014

Today I was interviewed by NBC about Francis' "All dogs go to heaven" claim. One small point, the interviewer, who was professional and polite, gives the impression that I claim only human beings have souls. Just to clarify: What I thought I had made clear, but perhaps did not make clear enough, is that animals have sensate souls (as plants have vegetative souls) but these organic souls die with the animal, whereas the human intellective soul (intellect and will) lives forever. - jv ( John Vennari)

"John Vennari, editor of Catholic Family News and a staunch traditionalist, said the pope displayed "a triumph of sentiment over adherence to the firm doctrine that the church always taught throughout the ages.

"It might move the person's heart and make them feel good, but it has no basis in Catholic teaching," Vennari said.

His take: animals share external and internal senses with humans but don't have the will and intellect that form the basis of a "soul," and their life force dies with them and does not go to heaven. "That's the basic teaching," Vennari said.

Does the pope's conversation with a grieving child change that? Traditionalists agree it does not. "But it creates a confusion on the very idea of salvation," Vennari said. "Did Christ die for my cat? Did Christ die for my dog? No. Christ died for human beings."

Groome, on the other hand, says the pope is on firm theological ground.

"The biblical evidence is that all life comes forth from God and all life returns into God," said the professor, a proud owner of a loyal Shih-tzu named Riley. "The Bible is quite clear about it."

That Pater Noster for the Holy Father at the beginning of every Rosary, right after the Credo, seems to grow in importance each day that goes by. This man needs our prayers for heaven to bombard him with enough graces to open his eyes.

My sentiments exactly D

This link is really worth a look. I'm not exactly trying to defend Pope Francis, but some of the things that he says get completely distorted through the media........

Sorry, Fido. Pope Francis did NOT say our pets are going to heaven

Indeed Sarah. Almost all his words are completely distorted, taken out of context, so I make an effort to listen or read what the Pope has actually said in the original sources. All big media had to retract about this one, although I personally believe that there can be plants and animals in Heaven if it is God's Will. Not defending him because he is Argentinian, 100% Italian blood (as myself...) and can understand his Jesuit formation in Buenos Aires.

Also, I think this Pope would Consecrate Russia as requested again by Our Lady and explained in the five Eleison Comments “Inside Story”, provided he gets to know about the Messenger and Messages and how Monseñor Fellay disobeyed Our Lady for so many years as others did in the past. Just a thought; also there are many enemies of Our Lord and Our Lady in Rome so no idea how to reach the Pope...

I'm surprised, John is usually better at checking his facts.
