Novena prayers to St. Camillus de Lelis

O God, Who did endow St. Camillus with a special grace of charity for the relief of souls in their last agony, we beseech Thee, by his merits, to pour into our hearts the spirit of Thy love, that in the hour of our death we may overcome the enemy and deserve to win a Heavenly crown. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with Thee, One God, world without end. +Amen

O Glorious St. Camillus, patron of the sick poor, thou who for forty years with heroic charity did devote thyself to the relief of their temporal and spiritual necessities; be pleased to assist them now even more generously since thou art blessed in Heaven and they have been committed by Holy Mother Church to thy protection. Obtain for them from Almighty God the healing of all their maladies, or at least the spirit of Christian patience and resignation that they may sanctify and comfort them in the hour of their passing into eternity. At the same time, obtain for us the precious grace of living and dying after thine example in the practice of Divine Love. +Amen

The other day I was out taking a walk and thought of St. Camillus, with that sore, diseased and painful leg wound of his. It might sound funny (it's not meant to) but it made me feel somewhat closer to and appreciate him better.

Comment by Cathleen on January 14, 2013 at 2:05pm: Esp for anyone with chronic health problems. St. Camillus suffered for over 40 years with a very painful leg infection and for about 30 years with a rupture in his intestines, as well as other problems towards the end of his life.

This prayer will get re-posted as a novena for his feast day in July.
