THE PSALTER OF JESUS

 The Psalter consists of three parts, each part having five petitions. Each petition is followed by "Have mercy on all sinners ..." and the last petition of each part, that is the fifth, tenth, and fifteenth petitions have an added prayer at the end.

 

 

THE FIRST PART

Begin by kneeling devoutly, or bowing, at the adorable Name of Jesus, saying:

And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

FIRST PETITION

have mercy on me.

 

Jesus, have mercy on me, O God of compassion, and forgive the many
and great offenses which I have committed in Thy sight. Many have been
the follies of my life, and great are the miseries which I have deserved for
my ingratitude.

 

Have mercy on me, dear Jesus, for I am weak;
O Lord, heal me, who am unable to help myself.

Deliver me from setting my heart upon any of Thy creatures,
which may divert my eyes from a continual looking up to Thee.
Grant me grace henceforth, for the love of Thee, to hate sin; and
out of a just esteem for Thee, to despise all worldly vanities.

Have mercy on all sinners, Jesus, I beseech Thee; turn their vices into virtues;
and, making them true observers of Thy law and sincere lovers of Thee,
bring to them bliss in everlasting glory.

Have mercy also on the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for Thy bitter Passion,
 I beseech Thee, and for Thy glorious Name, Jesus.

Jesus, help me to overcome all temptations to sin, and the malice of my spiritual enemy. Help me to spend my time on virtuous actions, and in such labors as are acceptable to Thee.

Help me to resist and repel the inclinations of my flesh to sloth, gluttony, and impurity. Help me to make my heart be attracted by virtue, and inflamed with desires of Thy glorious Presence.

Help me to deserve and keep a good name, by a peaceful and holy life; to Thy honor, O Jesus, to my own peace, and the benefit of others.

Have mercy also on the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for Thy bitter Passion, I beseech Thee, and for Thy glorious Name, Jesus.

Jesus, strengthen me in soul and body, to please Thee in doing such works of virtue as may bring me to Thy everlasting joy and happiness. Grant me a firm purpose, most merciful Savior, to amend my life, and to compensate for the years past: Those years which I have misspent in vain or wicked thoughts, words, deeds, and evil habits.

Make my heart obedient to Thy will, and ready, for Thy love, to perform all the works of mercy.

Grant me the gifts of the Holy Ghost, which by a virtuous life, and devout frequenting of Thy most Holy Sacraments, will bring me to Thy Heavenly Kingdom.

Have mercy also on the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for Thy bitter Passion, I beseech Thee, and for Thy glorious Name, Jesus.

Jesus, comfort me, and give me grace to place my chief, my only joy and happiness in Thee. Give me the grace of contemplative prayer, inner peace and a fervent desire of Thy glory; fill my soul with the contemplation of Heaven, that I may dwell there everlastingly with Thee,

Bring often to my remembrance Thy unsurpassable goodness, Thy gifts, and the great kindness which Thou hast shown me.

And when Thou bringeth to my mind the sad remembrance of my sins, whereby I have so ungratefully offended Thee, comfort me with the assurance of obtaining Thy grace by the spirit of perfect repentance, which will take away my guilt, and prepare me for Thy Kingdom.

Jesus, make me constant in faith, hope, and charity; and give me perseverance in all virtues, and a resolution never to offend Thee. Let the memory of Thy Passion, and of those bitter pains Thou suffered for me, strengthen my patience, and defend me in all tribulation and adversity.

Let me always hold fast to the doctrines of Thy Catholic Church, and fulfill all my Christian obligations.

Let no false delight of this deceitful world blind me, no temptation of the flesh or fraud of the devil, shake my heart: My heart, which seeks Thee for its eternal rest and resolves to seek Thy eternal reward above all else.

Have mercy also on the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for Thy bitter Passion, I beseech Thee, and for Thy glorious Name, Jesus.

He was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a Cross.

Hear these petitions, O most merciful Savior, and grant me grace to repeat and consider them frequently so that they may prove easy steps whereby my soul may ascend to the knowledge, love and performance of my duty to Thee, and my neighbor, through the whole course of my life. Amen.

enlighten me with spiritual wisdom.

Jesus, enlighten me with spiritual wisdom to know Thy goodness, and all those things which are most acceptable to Thee. Grant me a clear understanding of my only good, and wisdom to order my life according to it.

Grant that I may grow in virtue, till at length I arrive at the clear vision of Thy glorious Majesty.

Permit not, dear Lord, to return to those sins for which I have been sorry, and which I have confessed and done penance for.

Grant me grace to benefit the souls of others by my good example, and to win back, by good counsel, those who offend against me.

grant me the grace to fear Thee.

Jesus, grant me the grace inwardly to fear losing Thy friendship and to avoid all occasions of offending Thee. Let Thy warning of the punishments which are to fall on sinners, the fear of losing Thy love, and Thy Heavenly inheritance, always keep me in awe.

Let me not risk losing Thy friendship by sin, but soon return to repentance, lest the sentence of endless death and damnation fall upon me.

Let the powerful intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, and all Thy Saints, but above all, Thy own merits and mercy, O my Savior, be ever between Thy righteous justice and my soul still tempted by sin.

Enable me, O my God, to work out my salvation with fear and trembling; and let the understanding of Thy secret judgments render me a more humble and diligent lover at the throne of Thy grace.

Jesus, grant me grace to truly love Thee for Thine infinite goodness, and for the wonderful bounties which I have received, and hope for ever to receive from Thee. Let the remembrance of Thy kindness and patience conquer the malice and wretched inclinations of my fallen nature.

Let the consideration of my many deliverances, Thy frequent graces, and continual assistance in my life, make me ashamed of my ingratitude.

Thou grants me all Thy mercies, so that I may love Thee as my only good.

O my dear Lord, my whole life shall be nothing but a desire of Thee; and because I indeed love Thee, I will most lovingly keep Thy Commandments.

grant me the grace to always remember my death.

Jesus, grant me the grace always to remember my death, and the account which I am then to give, so that my soul, being always well-disposed, may depart out of this world in Thy grace. Then, by the holy intercession of Thy Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph, and the assistance of the glorious Saint Michael, deliver me from the enemy of my soul; and do thou, my good Angel, I beseech thee, help me at that most solemn hour.

Then, dear Jesus, remember Thy mercy, and turn not Thy most lovable face away from me because of my offenses.

Prepare me for that day, by causing me now to die daily to all earthly things, and so to have my conversation continually in Heaven.

Let the remembrance of my death teach me how to esteem my life; and the memory of Thy resurrection encourage me to meet my death with cheerfulness.

Jesus, send me here my Purgatory, so that I may be made ready to share the happiness of Heaven. Grant me those merciful crosses and afflictions which take away my false affection for all things here below,

Since no one can see Thee that loves anything which is not for Thy sake, suffer not my heart to find any rest here, but in Thee alone.

Grant that I may never suffer from the anguish of a soul that is separated from Thee, that desires, but cannot come to Thee because of sin.

Keep me continually mortified to this world, that being thoroughly purified by the fire of Thy love, I may immediately pass from this life into Thy everlasting Kingdom.

May I always speak the truth in charity and never hurt my neighbor by speaking evil of him when it is prudent or better to be silent.

Control in me, dear Jesus, all inordinate affections to things of the flesh so that I treat others with love and respect.

Thy power defend, Thy wisdom direct, Thy Fatherly pity correct me, and cause me to live here among other in such manner that I may be fit for the conversation of Angels hereafter.

Jesus, grant me grace in all my needs to call upon Thee for help, faithfully remembering Thine death and Resurrection for my sake.

Thou wilt listen to my cries, because Thou hast laid down Thy life for my ransom and Thou wilt save me because Thou took it upon Thine crown.

Thou intercedes for me in Heaven because Thou hast promised: "Call upon Me in the day of trouble, and I shall deliver thee."

Thou art my sure Rock of defense against all my enemies; Thou art my ever-present grace, able to strengthen me to every good work.

Jesus, make me persevere in virtue and a good life, and never fail Thy service, that Thou shall bringeth me to my place in Thy kingdom.

In every aspect of my work and prayer strengthen, O Lord, my soul and body. May I never turn from Thy path.

O Jesus, make me always consider Thy blessed example: through how much pain, Thou didst press on to a bitter death, Thy way a glorious Resurrection.

Make me, O my Redeemer, take Thy words to my bosom. "He that perseveres to the end shall be saved."

hee. Stop the wanderings of my mind, and the desires of a fickle heart; suppress the power of my spiritual enemies, who endeavor at that time to draw me away from Thee, thinking of Thee, and loving Thee.

So shall I, with joy and gratitude, look upon Thee as my deliverer from all evil, and as my benefactor for all the good I have ever received, or can hope for.

I shall see that Thou art my only good, and that all other things are but means, ordained by Thee, to bring me to fix my mind on Thee, to make me love Thee more and more, and by loving Thee, to be happy eternally.

O Beloved of my soul, sanctify all my thoughts on earth that my eyes may become worthy to behold Thee face to face in Thine glory for ever.

Jesus, give me grace to order my life for my eternal  happiness with Thee; that all my actions, body and soul, may fit me for destiny with Thee.

May I see the world as the place that prepares me for the next life by desiring
God as my only end.

Break me of my proud spirit, O Jesus; make me humble and obedient to Thy will: grant me the grace to depart this life in the state of sanctifying grace, filled with joy at my going unto Thee.

Let the memory of Thy passion help me to undergo all temptations and sufferings out of love for Thee and let my soul long for Thee and immortal glory with Thee in Heaven as Thy servant.

O Jesus, let me frequently and attentively consider, that whatever I gain, that if I should love Thy grace and friendship, all is lost to me; and that whatever I lose, if I gain Thee, I have gained everything.
