The prayer of Jabes

(For private purposes)

[9] And Jabes was more honourable than any of his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabes, saying: Because I bore him with sorrow.

[10]"And Jabes called upon the God of Israel, saying:

If blessing Thou wilt bless me, and wilt enlarge my borders,

and Thy hand be with me, and Thou save me from being oppressed by evil.

And God granted him the things he prayed for."

St. Jabes, pray for us.

For the intentions of all Crusaders.

Eternal Father,

please open the window of heaven

and pour us out Your blessing

so great, that there isn't enough room for us to receive it all.

I pray that You would bless us indeed,

extend our territories

and that Your Hand may be with us

to keep us from evil

that we may not cause harm.

Comment by Flavia Talladen Schott on March 31, 2019 at 5:52pm: Jabez was an Old Testament patriarch, whose mother suffered a lot during his birth. His very short story is found in 1 Chronicles 4:9-11. Accordingly his prayer to God was answered. But there are disputes about his prayer as he prayed only for himself, fo his own intentions. In my opinion, if God answered his prayer, I have no right to question it.
