As we are in the midst of saying the novena to our beloved Saint Philomena I thought it timely to share this story. I posted the quote of Saint Alphonsus to show just how true his statement is.
My Uncle Jimmy (in 2005) was diagnosed with cancer and given less than two weeks to live. He looked horrible. At the time my cousin was having a Baptismal party for his newly baptized baby so all the family was there including my Uncle Jimmy.
So while there my Mom goes up to my uncle and explains to him about Saint Philomena and how powerful she is with God and then asks him if he would let her make the sign of the cross on his head with the Saint Philomena holy oil she brought with her.
He agrees and she blesses him with the oil.
Inexplicable to science and or any other earthly reason my uncle was cured of his cancer that day. It is 2016 and he is still alive and perfectly healthy.
Now...my uncle had 11 children and his first wife who was Catholic left him. (he was given an annulment by the Church) He remarried to a woman named Judy who was not only not Catholic but HATED the Catholic Faith with a deep hate. She convinced him to leave the Faith and not continue raising the children in the Faith.
Fast forward to 2005. Judy sees that my uncle was cured by Saint Philomena and her hatred of the Church supersedes her happiness that he is cured.
Some months later my uncles son Johnny and his little son (8 years old) were out cutting down trees for firewood when one of the trees fell wrong and landed on my little 8 yr old cousin.
His poor little head was crushed but he was still alive trying to fight for life.
My Mom hears of this horrible news and goes to the hospital with the Saint Philomena oil wanting to bless my little cousin with it.
Guess who would not let her in. My aunt Judy. She blocked her any access to my little cousin claiming that she would rather see him die than have some miracle healing attributed to some Saint of the Catholic Church. My Mom even tried sneaking in late at night but couldn't get in.
My little cousin died some days later and my Mom never was given the chance to bless him.
Truly people choose their own damnation as Judy so aptly shows.
For all of that thanks is still to be given to Saint Philomena for her miraculous cure of my uncle. May it lead to his conversion.
