Today I went to Aylesford the Carmelite priory in Kent, where St Simon Stock received the Scapular from Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It was a thanksgiving visit. I bought some more scapulars and touched them to the reliqary of St. Simon Stock. Let me know if you would like one.

Hi,
Are these the traditional-sized small brown scapulars, or the modern teeny-weeny sized small scapulars?
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia (1912):
The small scapulars consist essentially of two quadrilateral segments of woolen cloth (about two and three-quarter inches long by two inches wide), connected with each other by two strings or bands in such a manner that, when the bands rest on the shoulders, the front segment rests before the breast, while the other hangs down an equal distance at the back.
Yes, Kate I would like one if it is still possible.........let me know what you need if there are any still available.
God Bless all,
Judy.
I didn't mean to sound weird. I just can't find anything more recent than the 1912 article about there being actual ecclesiastical regulations governing what size a brown scapular should be. I'm sure they threw all that out after Vatican II, but I don't know if there was ever a pre-Vat II change. I regard my scapular as sort of a lifeline, so I'm super careful about it. I've been making my own for years because all the commercially made ones are way smaller than what that article cited. Of course, I can't imagine St. Peter pulling out a ruler at the Pearly Gates and measuring my scapular and saying, "Sorry, not the right size. I'm afraid it's the other place for you..."
Dear David,
they are about 2 inches long and just over an inch wide, (4cmX3cm) I cannot even guarantee that they are made of woven wool - I purchased them at the gift shop.
If you would still like one Judy, I just need your address - I think there might be a way of posting this privately.
Yours in Christ
Kate
Thanks for the link David. I do like the idea of a St Michael Scapular:
While this scapular originated under Pius IX, who gave it his blessing, it was first formally approved under Leo XIII. In 1878 a confraternity in honour of St. Michael the Archangel was founded in the Church of St. Eustachius at Rome, and in the following year in the Church of Sant' Angelo in Pescheria (Sancti Angeli in foro Piscium). In 1880 Leo XIII raised it to the rank of an archconfraternity, which was expressly called the Archconfraternity of the Scapular of St. Michael. At first (1878) the confraternity received indulgences from Leo XIII for seven years; the summary of indulgences of the Pious Association of St. Michael was last approved for ever by a Decree of the Congregation of Indulgences, 28 March, 1903. The scapular is so associated with the confraternity that each member is invested with it. The formula for blessing and investing with the scapular, given in the Rituale Romanum was first approved by the Congregation of Rites on 23 August, 1883. In outward form this scapular is different from the others, inasmuch as the two segments of cloth have the form of a small shield; of these one is made of blue and the other of black cloth, and of the bands likewise one is blue and the other black. Both portions of the scapular bear the well-known representation of the Archangel St. Michael slaying the dragon and the inscription "Quis ut Deus".
Someone has been doing some research on the St Michael Scapular:
What are the Origins and Purpose from the Scapular of Saint Michael the Archangel?
I will provide a very short answer because I think most of the People would be too busy to read my longer answer, so here it goes:
In 1.870, Monsignor Jean-Pierre Bravard, Bishop of Coutances and Avranches obtained from the Prussians that they would not enter the Diocese during the 1.870 War, in exchange he promised them that 30 Volunteers among the Prussian Soldiers would receive special protection from St. Michael. This promise was kept by the Archangel, and none of the Volunteers were even slightly wounded.
This Miraculous Protection was the Reason why the Scapular of St. Michael was created. Pope Pius IX gave his blessing to this Scapular, I am not sure about when (1870, 1871, or 1872), but it could have been soon after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The Franco-Prussian War ended on 10 May, 1871.
In 1.875, 4.000 People go for a Pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Michel. Pope Pius IX published a Decree ordering a Triduum of Glorification.
Pope Pius IX gave the Archangel Responsibility for the defence of the Catholic Spirit and advised, in this intention, people to enrol in the Confraternity of St. Michael to fight the bad press and godless schools.
I have more Information about some Historical Events that are related to this, but writing about them would divert the Thread from its trend, I will probably open another Thread in the Future once I have my Research properly Documented.

AF33.

From what I've been able to gather from looking around the internet, and it's not a lot and some of the sources may be a bit on the sketchy side, apparently the Archconfraternity of the Scapular of St. Michael is now defunct. However, it APPEARS that now any priest can enroll anyone in the St. Michael Scapular. I saw this claim a number of times, and one of its instances was attributed to Louis Tofari. Of course, as with everything else on the internet, just 'cause it says it somewhere, doesn't mean it's necessarily so.
Katie,
I would like to get 3 scapulars touched to the relic of St. Simon Stock. How do I go about doing this, if you have 3 to spare.
Thank You
Doreen
Hi David,
If the Archconfraternity of St Michael's Scapular can be ressurrected, I feel it would be so valuable. Fr J Brucciani started off his tenure at St Michael's school last year by occassionally ommiting the St Michael's prayer because as he says it is not a necessary part of the liturgy. Just recently he has stopped omitting it at the Sunday Masses, but I have been able to attend several school Masses where I realised that sometimes the prayer to St Philomena prayer replaces the Leonine prayers. We need St Michael's protection more than ever especially in the UK. We are doing a novena after the family rosary until St Michael's feast day unfortunately we are unable to do the pilgrimage to Mont Saint Michel in France which actually lands on the 29th September this year. I have requested that a pilgrimage family carry our intentions and the school's intentions with them. Please pray for the school and particularly our family.
