Path to Victory
Dear friends and benefactors,
The Christian sings his victory, won through Christ and the virtue of His Most Precious Blood. Even when he seems to have failed in the eyes of men, he rises up even stronger. Failures do not render sterile the progress of his soul, but rather engrave in it the Cross and give him an understanding of the mystery of the love of God incarnated in humble souls.
Christendom itself has known quite heavy trials and many setbacks have punctuated its history. The enemies of the now defunct Christendom have posted guards around its tomb, as the Pharisees did after Our Lord's death. After two thousand years they are still full of themselves, thus showing that they haven't learned anything!
Men keep mocking what they call "the weakness of God" and insult Him. Fools! They do not realize that what seems to be weakness in God is only the highest expression of His mercy. When they laugh at it, or ridicule it, they are only passing their own sentence of damnation!
Such men also laugh at our efforts to maintain the honor of our fidelity to God and they are pleased with our obvious difficulties. Tomorrow, perhaps, they will want to force us to give up our combat, by imposing on us laws that will oblige us to choose death in order to avoid losing this honor and abandoning God.
They will jeeringly laugh and claim they have triumphed. But for us it will remain the certainty that the final victory belongs to Christ and to those who want to follow Him - because Calvary is already a victory, the only one that is worthy of a Christian soul.

I was moved by Fr Tim’s photos of the depictions of the Carthusian Martyrs from Parkminster. We are lucky that we do not (yet) face such a physical threat to the Faith. Others who follow Christ throughout the world pay a real price for their witness. Pray for them.
Faith of our fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire and sword;
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whenever we hear that glorious Word!
Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
