Lutheran niceties: Luther preaches Christ, Pope and Catholic clerics in the jaws of hell (from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder) |
Berlin - The Reformation anniversary in 2017 is considered a significant event also for the Catholic Church, according to the chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Reinhard Marx. "Luther did not aim to split the Church, but, with his calls to reform, wished to draw attention to grievances that obscured the message of the Gospel," the Archbishop of Munich writes in a column in the journal of the German Cultural Council Politik & Kultur. "After 50 years of joint ecumenical dialogue, it is possible for a Catholic Christian to read Luther's texts appreciatively, and to learn from his thoughts." [source]

"We cannot restrain Our tears, when We see that some Italians now are so wicked and so wretchedly deceived that they admire the vile teachings of impious men. In fact, they are not afraid to plot with them for this great destruction of Italy. You are aware indeed, that the goal of this most iniquitous plot is to drive people to overthrow the entire order of human affairs and to draw them over to the wicked theories of this Socialism and Communism, by confusing them with perverted teachings. But these enemies realize that they cannot hope for any agreement with the Catholic Church, which allows neither tampering with truths proposed by faith, nor adding any new human fictions to them. This is why they try to draw the Italian people over to Protestantism, which in their deceit they repeatedly declare to be only another form of the same true religion of Christ, thereby just as pleasing to God."
Pope Bl. Pius IX
I saw some interesting comments on another blog, which summed it up well about what we could learn from Luther:
1) you could learn how to break your vows and "shack up" with a nun who also broke her vows
2) you could learn how to cut and paste words from the Bible to suit your own warped theology
3) you could break apart in a violent way the unity of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and open the door for other warped men to start up their own "churches" based on their own warped theology
4) you could drink to excess and swear a blue streak, "sin boldly" while maintaining that you are forgiven and saved by faith alone
5) you could tell a king he may divorce his wife when she no longer suits him
6) you could lead countless souls through the centuries into error and perdition because of your teachings
..........and more
May God have mercy on us all.
