MEN OF THE CLOTH

To understand the Holy Mass, one should look to the priest. And to understand him, one should look at the Holy Mass. For it’s been said that the Holy Mass and the priest are so united that one cannot exist without the other. A Holy Mass, however beautiful it is, cannot be fully appreciated without the priest. And the latter also cannot find fulfillment of his mission without the Holy Mass.

But what concerns us today is the maelstrom that shakes the Catholic priesthood nowadays.

Priesthood is a holy vocation. Only a chosen few enjoy such eminence. Nevertheless, it is shocking to hear lots of anointed men accused, even proven guilty of sexual abuses, active homosexuality, gambling, and drug addiction among others. They’re humans like us, no doubt. But should it go this far and this ruinous? What’s more, these acts have become systemic and not merely random errors. Irony is, Church officials deny it despite the soaring scale. Those who knew of the events taking place in the Catholic Church decades ago could have been less surprised. After all, the New Mass, along with its oozing errors, is meant for the destruction not only of the Faith but of the clergymen, as well.

The move is stealthy so that one can hardly take notice of it. First, the devil, through the instrumentality of Church authorities, changes the priest’s mentality with regards the Holy Mass. After a successful venture during the Second Vatican Council, this leads us to his second move: the stripping off of the cassock. With his head turning upside down, how can the priest still know the veritable reasons of wearing it? It’s either he is ashamed to be recognized as clergy or he hates to wear it for it will just hamper him from doing mundane activities. But worst of all is his loss of identity, of his role in the pastoral and spiritual care of the people whom Jesus Christ entrusted to him: “Feed my lamb.”

What distinction is there between a sheep and shepherd? The devil is wise. Because knowing the union of the priest and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, he destroys it. And what better way to do it than to destroy the priest first?

But God is not cruel to as to just let these things happen so smoothly. There’s always an antidote to every crisis. MSGR.MARCEL LEFEBVRE was a grace from God. He was so much aware of the coming demise of the Catholic priesthood. And he made just the right moves. He built seminaries to form priests with strongly Catholic mindset. He consecrated bishops not for any other motives but for the perpetuation and protection of the true Catholic Faith epitomized in the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass—the Mass, which the Conciliar Church refuses to provide for so long until the Summorum Pontificum.

“It is a great and continual sorrow to our heart (Rom 9:2) to find Jeremiah’s lamentation applicable to our times: “ The little ones asked for bread, and there was none to break it for them”(Lam. 4:4). For there are not lacking among the clergy those who adapt themselves according to their bent to works of more apparent than real solidity—but not so numerous perhaps are those who, after the example of Christ, take to themselves the words of the Prophet: “The Spirit of the Lord hath anointed me, hath sent me to evangelize the poor, to heal the contrite of heart, to announce freedom to the captive, and sight to the blind”.(Lk. 4:18-19)—E SUPREMI APOSTOLATUS by  POPE PIUS X ON THE RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS IN CHRIST.

Oh Lord, grant us priests!

Oh Lord, grant us many priests!

Oh Lord, grant us many holy priests!

Oh Lord, grant us many holy religious vocations!

Saint Pius X, pray for us.
