Fatima, Russia & the 100 year countdown
With the year 2017 marking the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions, a countdown of sorts has begun in anticipation of a terrible chastisement of unthinkable proportions.
It is not without good reason that one shudders at the prospect.
On October 13, 1973, the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, Our Lady spoke the following words of warning to Sr. Agnes Sasagawa at Akita, Japan:
As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.
In 1998, speaking at the International Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici Conference in Rome, Former Ambassador of the Phillipines to the Holy See, Howard Q. Dee said:
Cardinal Ratzinger personally confirmed to me that these two messages, of Fatima and Akita, are essentially the same.
That revelation by the future Pope Benedict XVI predated his complicity in the cover-up operation of June 2000 wherein the Vatican allegedly published the Third Secret of Fatima “in its entirety.”
All but the invincibly naïve know better and therefore have every reason to expect Our Lady’s warning as given at Akita to come to fruition; unless, of course, the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart is carried out according to her wishes beforehand.
The question is, however, when might one expect Our Lord to administer this act of justice in return for the popes’ failure to heed Our Lady’s wishes?
This brings us back to the 100 year countdown.
On July 13, 1917, Our Lady told the Fatima seers – Jacinta, Lucia and Fransisco that God, if people did not stop offending Him, would punish the world “by means of war, hunger and persecution of the Church and of the Holy Father;” with Russia serving as His chosen instrument of chastisement.
“Russia will be the instrument of chastisement chosen by Heaven to punish the whole world if we do not beforehand obtain the conversion of that poor nation,” Our Lady said.
“To prevent this,” the Blessed Virgin continued, “I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart,” and she promised that if only this solitary request be met, Russia would be converted and a period of peace would be given to the world.
As, again, all but the invincibly naïve know, as of this writing the requested consecration of Russia has not been done.
Our Lady forewarned of the consequences that would befall us should her simple request be ignored, saying:
Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer and various nations will be annihilated.
At this, a few observations are in order.
First, let’s talk about the idea that “the Holy Father will have much to suffer.”
Most observers, it seems, tend to place this warning on the same plane as that concerning martyrdom and that of Russia persecuting the Church; as if the Holy Father will be unjustly victimized.
I have a somewhat different view.
We know that Our Lady asked that the Third Secret be revealed in 1960 specifically in order to warn about the dangers of “a bad council and a bad Mass.” We also know that John XXIII chose a different path; one that his successors have also chosen to follow.
Let’s be honest, from the time of the Council on forward, the popes haven’t behaved in such way as to merit the martyrdom of those who steadfastly remain faithful even in the face of death.
On the contrary, they have failed to remain faithful, and as such they have invited much personal suffering, as a matter of justice, by virtue of their disobedience and for having misled countless innocent souls.
As we attempt to discern the signs of the times vis-à-vis the Fatima apparitions, this may be an important distinction; i.e., those who are looking for a faithful victim-pope are likely to be searching in vain.
This should make sense given the fact that a truly faithful pope would do as Our Lady asked; thus averting the dreadful consequences of which she forewarned.
“Russia will spread its errors throughout the world…”
We know very well that this entails the fomenting of wars and the persecution of the Church, but to specifically what “errors” is Our Lady referring?
In my view, two in particular merit close consideration; namely, the separation of Church and State and atheism.
NB: The dates on which these errors came to feature prominently in Russia – 1917 and 1929 specifically – are significant. Keep them in mind.
Just weeks after the final Fatima apparition, the “Great October Socialist Revolution” took place in Russia; setting in motion a torrent of severe anti-religious legislative activity that culminated in the 1929 Laws on Separation of Church and State.
Among the official acts set forth by the Russian government in the year 1917 are the following:
– Control of all parish schools, religious colleges and seminaries, along with all of their property, will be handed over the Commissariat of Education.
– All records in the possession of religious organizations are to be handed over to the local courts.
– The Russian Republic from now on recognizes only civil marriages.
– All decisions concerning the dissolution of marriage belong solely to the court.

As these Acts (each of which was instituted in December 1917) make evident, steps were being taken in Russia to eliminate the Church’s influence immediately following the Fatima apparitions.
This, however, was just the beginning.
For a truly fascinating glimpse into the anti-religious scene in Russia following the 1929 Laws on Separation of Church and State, we will look to an article written in 1930 by Bishop Michel D’Herbigny, President of the Pontifical Institute of Oriental Studies, entitled: The “Anti-God Front” in Soviet Russia since April 1929.

Bishop D’Herbigny described the situation in Soviet Russia as follows:
In April 1929 the general assembly of the delegates of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics revised several of the fundamental laws … Their publication and the events which have followed reveal a determination to suppress, once and for all and as soon as possible, every manifestation of religion-and even the existence of religion itself. (Studies: An Irish Quarterly Review, Vol. 19, No. 73. Mar., 1930, pp. 1-10)
His Excellency went on to comment upon the lengths to which the Russian State would go to crack down on proselytism; not only in public, but in private as well.
The teaching of religion to children, in any place whatever, was already forbidden not only to clergymen but to any believer. Henceforth the parents themselves can be punished as guilty of religious propaganda if they induce their children to frequent the church or to learn and recite their prayers. (ibid.)
As the rights of parents and clergy were increasingly denied, the ability of government approved institutions grew:
At a general conference of the orphanages of Leningrad a director declared that to wait until the school age before weaning children from religion is to wait too long. They must be taken at the tenderest age and initiated immediately into irreligion. Unfortunately they are poisoned only too often by the religious atmosphere of the family. (ibid.)
The result?
The perversion of children has reached an incredible shamelessness. So revolting and diabolical are some of the details that they cannot be told here. (ibid.)
According to Bishop D’Herbigny’s assessment:
It is quite clear that we are on the eve of a new code of laws which will make all religion impossible … Every manifestation, in public or private, capable of inducing others to practice acts of religion will be considered [under the 1929 law] punishable propaganda. (ibid.)
The only form of propaganda allowed (and, in fact, encouraged) by the State, according to Bishop D’Herbigny, was that of anti-religion, or “Militant Atheism.”
The separation of Church and State and atheism…
These, my friends, are the very errors that, once spread, would create the ideal climate for the wars, persecutions of the Church, and martyrdom about which Our Lady forewarned.
Most of us, it seems, think of the warning, “Russia will spread its errors throughout the world…” in geo-political terms and with respect to the behavior and condition of individual States.
Certainly, the situation described by Bishop D’Herbigny is chilling in that it reads, in hindsight, like a forecast of things to come in places like the United States where I live. Indeed, I can tell you that certain of the godless activities he decried are already evident here, and the downward trajectory of the culture toward full blown irreligion is undeniable.
Even so, I would argue once more that those wishing to discern the signs of the times vis-à-vis the Fatima apparitions do well to look first and foremost to the Church and the degree to which Russia’s errors have taken hold therein.
As goes the Church, so goes the world.
This being so, Our Lady’s warning, “Russia will spread its errors throughout the world…” can be well understood to say that a time will come when the Church itself will become infected with said errors; thus relinquishing its proper role as the “soul” of human society and “man’s guide to heaven.” (cf Pope Leo XIII, Immortale Dei)
Indeed, Our Lady’s description of the consequences of the popes’ failure to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart can be understood as follows:
The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. (Our Lady of Akita)
Recall that these words spoken to Sr. Agnes Sasagawa at Akita, Japan are, according to the future Pope Benedict XVI himself, “essentially the same” as the message of Fatima.
The question one might ask therefore is this:
As the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions approaches, are the errors of Russia – specifically the separation of Church and State and atheism – evident in the Church today?
There can be no question that the Declaration on Religious Freedom of Vatican II (the “bad council” about which the still hidden portion of the Third Secret warns) amounts to the undoing of the immutable doctrine so beautifully illuminated in the Encyclical of Pope Pius XI, Quas Primas, on the Social Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ; thus adopting in principal the separation of Church and State.
As a result, churchmen today no longer insist upon the Sovereign Rights of Christ the King; opting instead to plead with the State on behalf of everyone, believer and non-believer alike, and their supposed right to follow their individual consciences.
OK, fair enough, but surely it cannot be said that the Church is hurtling toward atheism!
Oh, really?
The pages of this blog are filled with evidence clearly demonstrating the degree to which modernism has taken hold in Rome; especially in the highest places.
For the sake of brevity, I will take this opportunity simply to remind readers of the wise words of Pope St. Pius X, who in his Encyclical, On the Doctrines of the Modernists, Pascendi Dominici Gregis, tells us precisely where modernism inevitably leads:
We shall see later how, with such theories, added to the other errors already mentioned, the way is opened wide for atheism. – Pope St. Pius X
No, Rome has not fully adopted the atheistic program detailed in Bishop D’Herbigny’s description of 1930 Russia, but the signs along the road that leads there are most certainly present for the reading.
Consider, for example, Francis’ vehement rejection of religious propagation, saying most recently:
“It’s not right to convince someone of your faith. Proselytism is the strongest venom against the path of ecumenism.”
Note well that the “ecumenism” to which he refers is nothing more than a joint effort to engage in earthbound good works that have humankind (not God) as their center and crown; a truly socialist activity.
Consider as well the degree to which Francis is pleased to undermine the rights of parents to form their children.
Commenting on Amoris Laetitia in an article for akaCatholic, Randy Engel wrote:
The main heading, “The Need for Sex Education,” is instructive in light of the fact that prior to the post-conciliar era, no such “instruction” was deemed “necessary” by Holy Mother Church apart from the natural instruction given by parents to their children on sexual matters as they enter womanhood and manhood.
The Vatican also recently crafted its own sex education program; one so “revolting and diabolical” in its own right that Bishop D’Herbigny would undoubtedly feel moved to cry out anew: The perversion of children has reached an incredible shamelessness!
Add to this the fact that Francis is laboring to effectively to reduce Christian marriage to little more than mere civil marriage, and one can hardly deny that the errors of Russia have spread in such way as to permeate the very hearts and minds of those who exercise ecclesial power in Rome!
This brings me back to where we began:
The 100 year countdown
On August 19, 1931, Our Blessed Lord appeared to Sr. Lucia at her convent in Rianjo, Spain to express His displeasure over the fact that Russia had not yet been consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of His mother as requested:
Make it known to My ministers that, given they follow the example of the King of France in delaying the execution My command, they will follow him also into misfortune.
In this, Our Lord was referring to His request, made on June 17, 1689, that the King of France consecrate the nation to the Sacred Heart. This request was not met.
One hundred years to the day, on June 17, 1789, the King of France was stripped of his legislative authority by the Third Estate, and four years later the King was taken to the guillotine by the soldiers of the French Revolution.
Note well that the crime of the French Revolutionaries wasn’t so much the execution of an innocent man as it was the execution of one who met with great suffering due to his guilt before God.
One should expect a similar dynamic with respect to Our Lady’s warning that “the Holy Father will have much to suffer.”
Let’s return now the question at hand:
When is the 100th anniversary of the requested consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; the date on which one may expect the chastisement described in some detail by Our Lady at Akita; along with the “misfortune” of the Kings of France befalling the pope?
Recall Our Lady’s words spoken on June 13, 1917 at Fatima:
“I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart…”
Come back, she did.
The date was June 13, 1929 when Our Lady appeared to Sr. Lucia and said:
The moment has come for God to ask the Holy Father to make, in union with all the bishops of the world, the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart.
Two things should immediately stand out:
One, the request comes from God through the Blessed Virgin.
Secondly, for those who are counting down in anticipation of a terrible chastisement of unthinkable proportions, next year is not the target, but rather 2029; June 13 to be exact.
This is both good news and troubling news.
It is troubling to imagine that, barring the consecration of Russia as requested, the present situation in the Church and the world, for as bad as it is, will undoubtedly get much, much worse over the course of the next dozen or so years, and that is before the chastisement described by Our Lady is properly visited upon us.
The good news is that there’s still time.
So, what are we to do?
At Akita, Our Lady told us:
“Prayer, penance and courageous sacrifices can soften the Father’s anger … Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests … Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. I alone am able still to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved."
