Dublin's Leading Catholic Hospital Agrees to Follow Abortion Law

Dublin’s leading Catholic hospital agrees to kill unborn babies through abortion

The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, owned and managed by the Sisters of Mercy, the Archdiocese of Dublin, the Catholic Nurses’ Guild of Ireland, and the Society of St Vincent de Paul, has issued a statement confirming that Catholic doctors and Catholic nurses will kill unborn babies through abortion. Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is one of the hospitals mandated to kill babies by Catholic Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s abortion act.

The statement says: “The Mater Hospital has carefully considered the Act. The Hospital’s priority is to be at the frontier of compassion, concern and clinical care for all our patients. Having regard to that duty, the Hospital will comply with the law as provided for in the act.”

In August 2013 Protect the Pope reported that ‘Fr Kevin Doran, a board member of Mater Misericordiae hospital Dublin, has told the Irish Times that the hospital ‘cannot comply’with Enda Kenny’s abortion law even though the hospital is named in the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act  as  one of 25 “appropriate institutions”  where unborn babies may killed.’

Fr Doran, who sits on the board of governors and the board of directors of the Mater, said it was “incumbent on the hospital to consider its position on the Act . . . The Mater can’t carry out abortions because it goes against its ethos. I would be very concerned that the Minister [for Health, James Reilly] sees fit to make it impossible for hospitals to have their own ethos.

“The issue is broader than just abortion. What’s happening is the Minister is saying hospitals are not entitled to have an ethos.”

‘Asked his view of what should happen if the board were to decide it would comply with the legislation, Fr Doran said: “I suppose I can assume there would be very serious discussion between the Archbishop [of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin] and the management of the hospital.”’

Protect the Pope comment: The Mater Misericordiae hospital’s shameful statement of compliance with Enda Kenny’s abortion act is one of the most infamous acts of betrayal of the Church in  modern history. This Catholic hospital attempts to justify its co-operation in the murder of innocents with the words, ‘The Hospital’s priority is to be at the frontier of compassion, concern and clinical care for all our patients.’ What about compassion, concern and clinical care for their most vulnerable of patients, unborn babies threatened with abortion? Every Catholic who voted to allow abortions in this Catholic hospital is now in a state of excommunication. We all wait to hear what  Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has to say about this distressing news.
