An invitation by the Society of St Pius X to clergy and lay people to attend their celebration of the feast of the solemnity of the Most Holy Rosary today has been rejected by Davao archdiocese.
Father Thomas Onoda, the head of the international Catholic traditionalist organization in the Philippines, had announced that all who wanted to join could gather in liturgy today.
There will also be liturgical celebrations in other dioceses, he said.
Archbishop Fernando Capalla of Davao rejected the group’s invitation, and advised Catholics against joining.
“As long as the society does not have canonical status in the Church, its ministers do not exercise legitimate ministries in the Church,” he said quoting Pope Benedict XVI’s 2009 letter regarding the organization.
“For this reason our Catholics – priests, Religious and laity – are hereby advised not to participate in any ministry – liturgical celebration, teaching and community – of the Society of St. Pius X,” the prelate declared.

I was really saddened that Archbishop Capalla refused to pray the rosary just because it was an invitation from the Society. I can still remember that some members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) like Bishop Aniceto Paciano and His Eminence, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal joined the SSPX Rosary Crusade for the Defense of Life and Rejection of the RH Bill.
Archbishop Capalla lacked the courage of his brother Bishop, Salvador Lazo who courageously defended the Sacred Traditions of the Church and supported the SSPX publicly even if it means rejection and persecution.
“May God give give us the grace to persevere to the end faithful to Catholic Tradition and to the Traditional Latin Mass because only those who persevere will receive the crown of victory.”-Bishop Salvador Lazo
