Communiqué of the General House: Bp. Williamson Has Been Expelled October 23rd 2012

Bishop Richard Williamson, having distanced himself from the management and the government of the SSPX for several years, and refusing to show due respect and obedience to his lawful superiors, was declared excluded from the SSPX by decision of the Superior General and its Council, on October 4th, 2012. A final deadline had been granted to him to declare his submission, after which he announced the publication of an “open letter” asking the Superior General to resign.

This painful decision has become necessary by concern for the common good of the Society of Saint Pius X and its good government, according to what Archbishop Lefebvre denounced: “This is the destruction of authority. How authority can be exercised if it needs to ask all members to participate in the exercise of authority? “(Ecône, June 29, 1987)

The games will be interesting, but terribly painful, for all involved.

The St. Michael Prayer seems quite appropriate right now.  Discernment is a prized commodity....

Bishop Williamson Expelled from the SSPX

By John Vennari

October 24: It is confirmed from Menzingen today that Bishop Richard Williamson has been expelled from the Society of Saint Pius X. The news fills me with great sadness.

This break has been coming for some time; it is one of those tragic events one sees in advance yet is powerless to prevent.

I never forget a kindness, and Bishop Williamson had been good to me over the years. Though we have not communicated as often since his departure from Winona in 2003, I still owe him a debt of gratitude. In the mid 1990s, in highly unusual circumstances, I was able to study at-a-distance for the priesthood for two years through the Winona seminary, which Bishop Williamson made possible. Though I did not follow through to the priesthood, the formation I received was invaluable.

I am also grateful for him introducing Dr. David Allen White to us all, since we learned about Dr. White through his magnificent lectures on Shakespeare at Winona.

The root cause of this latest discord, of course, is the crisis in the Church caused by the Second Vatican Council, which has been a source of division even among good men.

It is not my intention to step in between warring factions, as in cases like this there are often faults on both sides and it is not my mission to root out all the details. Further, I have been in the traditionalist movement for 32 years and have seen how ugly these fights can become. Yes, I too scratched my head at some of Bishop Williamson’s recent words and actions, and I believe the infamous “Holocaust” interview was a mistake, yet I will not join in the blanket condemnations against him. As for all else, I will keep my own counsel.

Communique from Ecclesia Dei Commision

NEWS.VA -- The Vatican Today

DECLARATION OF THE PONTIFICAL COMMISSION "ECCLESIA DEI"

VATICAN CITY, (VIS) - The following English-language declaration was issued this morning by the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei".
"The Pontifical Commission 'Ecclesia Dei' takes this occasion to announce that, in its most recent official communication (6 September 2012), the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X has indicated that additional time for reflection and study is needed on their part as they prepare their response to the Holy See’s latest initiatives.
"The current stage in the ongoing discussions between the Holy See and the Priestly Fraternity follows three years of doctrinal and theological dialogues during which a joint commission met eight times to study and discuss, among other matters, some disputed issues in the interpretation of certain documents of Vatican Council II. Once these doctrinal dialogues were concluded, it became possible to proceed to a phase of discussion more directly focused on the greatly desired reconciliation of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X with the See of Peter.
"Other critical steps in this positive process of gradual reintegration had already been taken by the Holy See in 2007 with the extension of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite to the Universal Church by the Motu Proprio 'Summorum Pontificum' and in 2009 with the lifting of the excommunications. Just a few months ago, a culminating point along this difficult path was reached when, on 13 June 2012, the Pontifical Commission presented to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X a doctrinal declaration together with a proposal for the canonical normalisation of its status within the Catholic Church.
"At the present time, the Holy See is awaiting the official response of the superiors of the Priestly Fraternity to these two documents. After thirty years of separation, it is understandable that time is needed to absorb the significance of these recent developments. As Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI seeks to foster and preserve the unity of the Church by realising the long hoped-for reconciliation of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X with the See of Peter - a dramatic manifestation of the 'munus Petrinum' in action - patience, serenity, perseverance and trust are needed".

Don't despair Mario, God sees all and He knows what He is doing in permitting things to happen as they are happening.

We can't always see what He is weaving until it is over.

I have told several of my friends that a priest told me once that he was offering Mass for (my intentions) and that he wanted me at the moment of consecration to pray this prayer:

"Lord, convert those who will convert, and destroy those who will not"

God knows each man and he knows the heart, mind, soul and intentions of the heart of each man be they good or evil.   Leave it to Him and do not be cast down into sorrow.

Wow, D,  that is a very concise prayer. God definitely knows what is in a person's heart. I should pray much more often  specifically for the conversion of sinners, as well as for my own improvement. Thanks.

Yes and I was stunned at how God answered...and how fast.

I never forgot it.  It's such a short prayer but equal in mercy and justice.

hail mary be with us along the way

I have found that sometimes it is the concise and heartfelt prayers that get the quickest answer, even if it is not the answer that maybe we wanted to hear.  Like Rebecca said, God knows a person's heart....we don't....and appearances can be deceiving.  I have found that out too many times in my life.  :-(  What I thought was good was bad (harmful), and vice versa.

Our Dear Lord knows what He is doing, and what is best for us, even if we don't..

Many prayers though for this difficult situation.  Bishop Williamson "straightened me out" once in confession, and saved my soul from hell....I am convinced of that...and I have never forgotten that kindness on his part.  I know he was doing his duty as a priest to get a sinner to repent, but the way he did so was a turning point in my selfish and sinful life. May God help him now in this dark and confusing time, to be brave and true to Him.

Dear Lord, have mercy on Thy people who only wish to love and serve Thee.

I didn't word my response quite right:  I meant that it can get confusing for the faithful who hear all sorts of rumors, gossip and so forth on the internet and elsewhere.   +HE Wiliamson has always impressed me with the clarity with which he speaks and acts.  He is not one to act hastily or rashly.  +HE does need many prayers though, as do we all, to always stay true to Our Divine Master.  Many prayers also for +HE Fellay.  Satan would like nothing better than to drag him and many souls to error and ruin.

Sorry for any misunderstanding of what I wrote.

I believe this is what you were referencing Mario  HERE

I'm just more confused and saddened.   I received an e-mail yesterday from a friend.  The message was a copy of a post from a tradcath message board and it was a venting from a person who had heard Fr. Rostand speak in Post Falls recently.  I won't go into detail but the end result was this person was trashing the demeanor of the superior and his responses to questions about the crisis and the SSPX's response to the faithful in regards to the sacraments...among other things.  It just saddens me to read and hear stuff from BOTH/ALL sides.   I can understand emotions are running high, nerves are raw, and tempers are flaring.  I'm disappointed in the alleged responses/demeanor of those in charge AND the accusatory, slanderous, and self righteous behavior of the lay people.   Right now, no one appears reputable or honorable.   It is boardering on a  bar fight-like behavior.      And why do some people feel we all need to read/see/ hear their thoughts to every new development and post them on gossip mongoring web sites?  ....traditional Catholic no less.

Don't these people have a state in life, kids to rear, jobs to work?    It is provacative behavior....picking a fight....and all sides do it.    The devil is laughing his slithering, cold scaled head off.

I don't get it.     I don't know who to trust anymore.

And, every time I see Bp. Muller's face.......well, we won't go there.

Thanks for your posts, D, of hope and courage.   I want you to know I feel better when I read something that reminds me

to "calm down, God is still in control".   :0)

A hefeweizen helps, too.
