While I believe that Cardinal Burke is most sincere in what he says here, I can also see that he has very limited vision having spent most if not all of his clerical life in the darkness which has enveloped the Church since the implementation of VatII.

I believe the cardinal is sincere when he says "we" meaning us, the faithful and the clergy etc of the Society will have to readjust their thinking and learn obedience, an obedience to the Holy Father which the cardinal declares has been lacking in us for many years.

He [+Burke] more than likely believes that we, not adhereing to the false doctrines and trying to keep the Faith on our own all these years has brought about a spirit of independence in the members of the Society, an independence in the faithful, clergy and religious alike.

But I would argue that if the Society was founded on the basis of simple rebellion the cardinal might have a point.  No good fruits can come from a rebellious spirit, or a spirit which says "I will not serve" "non servium".

The Society of Saint Pius the X was not built upon a spirit of rebellion, nor was it built upon a desire to disobey the Holy Father nor Holy Mother Church.  Quite the contrary.  None can be found who more than anything desire greatly to be placed under obedience to the Pope then those found within the SSPX, both clergy and faithful alike.

The problem has always been since the days of VatII that we find ourselves in the precarious and most uncomfortable position of HAVING to say no to the Holy Father (s) who have for over 40 years now pushed every manner of innovation upon Holy Mother Church.  Innovations which run contrary to the Faith.

Far from having the spirit of rebellion we all very much have the spirit of obedience.  But alas, regardless of how the "heart" of the Holy Father desires this reunion many of us see no change in Rome, nor in what is coming out of Rome as far as errors.

It is true the Holy Father is trying to FIX VAT II up and try to correct some errors, but while he corrects some and takes a half a step forward he immediately embraces others and takes twenty steps backwards.

This is not an atmosphere nor an environment in which those of us who wish to keep hold of our Faith can do so without being smothered by modernism and errors which will surely find their way into our chapels, rectories, seminaries and schools should we find ourselves under your authority or even directly under the Holy Fathers.

We have asked the Holy Father on numerous occasions for the one thing which we believe would truly help Holy Mother Church regain Her footing toward a true restoration and that is the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

We have been repeatedly ignored.  Even though we have not asked it nor prayed for it for any other reason than the good of the Church.

If the Holy Father can not do something so simple as consecrate Russia and obey this simplest of commands how shall we believe he will make any greater effort toward restoring the Church as She needs restoring, or believe that he truly desires to?

When we are not obedient in small things how can we be obedient in greater things?  And I am not talking about the SSPX either.
