Burning the midnight candles
at St. Vincent's

For over a decade, the magnificent English gothic church of St. Vincent de Paul located in Midtown of Kansas City, Missouri has uniquely honored the birth of the Christ Child with a awe-inspiring lit midnight Christmas High Mass.

Nearly 1400 candles illuminate the immense church in honor of the Light of the World, thus helping to signify what the Mass propers say: "The glory of the Lord shall be revealed: and all flesh shall see the salvation of our God."

Over the years, word has gotten out about St. Vincent's annual midnight Christmas Mass, thus drawing in visitors from around the metropolitan area (and even beyond Topeka) - and serving as a magnificent introduction to the traditional Roman Mass. One visitor remarked this year after her first experience: "I had heard about St. Vincent's candlelit Mass for several years... but I was really surprised how bright the church was... I was expecting it to be filled with shadows! I didn't even need a candle to read my missal by..."

What beautiful pictures!  Maybe we should take a trip to Kansas City, Missouri next year for Christmas Midnight Mass.
