Auriesville Pilgrimage, 2011

AURIESVILLE, NY
6-13-2011

650 faithful from chapels throughout the East Coast regions made the annual 10-mile Pilgrimage of Tradition to the National Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville, New York on Saturday, June 11 to glorify God in His Holy Martyrs.

This shrine is dedicated to the martyrdom of French Jesuit priest, Sts. Isaac Jogues and lay Jesuit Rene Goupil, who were martyred here in 1642, then called Ossernenon by the Mohawks.

St. John Lalande, also a layman working with the Jesuits, was martyred here in 1646 while attempting to recover Fr. Jogues body; he was merely a teenager.

It is also the birthplace of Indian maiden Kateri Tekakwitha, born 10 years after the martyrdom of St. Issac Jogues. She passed away while uttering the names of "Jesus" and "Mary" at the age of 24 on April 17, 1680.

Here we present a selection of images of the pilgrimage which occurred under rainy conditions.
