An article has just been published by Catholic World Report written by Michael Miller, titled: SSPX Dialogue Continues: “Patience, Serenity, Perseverance, and Trust are Needed”.
It offers an objective understanding of the recent relations between Menzingen and Rome, including the latest occurrences within the SSPX during the 2012 General Chapter. It especially emphasizes the change of personnel at the Congregation of the Faith, with its new president, Archbishop Mueller and vice-president, Archbishop DiNoia.
We need only add a caveat and an explanation.
A caveat is needed for the mellow treatment of Archbishop Mueller’s previous teachings. Here we must insist that the errors present in Archbishop Mueller's former writings cannot simply be corrected through a press conference!
An explanation is due to our SSPX readers as to the title and main point of this article: “Dialogue continues”. It quotes an Ecclesia Dei declaration which speaks of “the current stage in the ongoing discussions between the Holy See and the Priestly Fraternity” and also cites several “critical steps in this positive process of gradual integration” since 2007.
We should note that this declaration was unsigned and seems to put pressure on the Superior General, Bishop Fellay, to accept the CDF's document of June 13, which he has rejected three times over!
If this declaration was written by DiNoia as it seems, clearly there are contradictory mindsets inside the CDF, for Archbishop Mueller has made it clear that for him, the process of "re-intergration" is unwanted and definitively over. Once again we witness another example of Rome’s double talk which has perplexed our Superior General so much.
In any case, the SSPX has set clear parameters in the General Chapter’s Declaration and rest assured that with the grace of God, they will be fully complied with, regardless of Roman pressures.
