Some decades ago, in the small island of Tumaco (Colombia), what happened with a tsunami taught its inhabitants that God, present in the Blessed Sacrament, acts when their priests and faithful invoke Him with love and faith.
The incident occurred on January 31, 1906. At ten o'clock, the inhabitants of this tiny Pacific island felt a strong earthquake that lasted about 10 minutes. Then, all the people ran to the church to beg the priest, Father Gerardo Larrondo and to Father Julián, to organize immediately a procession with the Blessed Sacrament.
Meanwhile, the sea began to collect itself, having already covered about a mile from the coast, threatening to form a huge wave. Father Gerardo, terrified, consumed all the consecrated Hosts and kept only the Magna Host.
Then, addressing to the people he exclaimed: "Come, my children, come all to the beach and may God have mercy of us!"
Reassured in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, they all went to the beach among weeping and acclamations to God. When Father Larrondo arrived to the beach, he went down bravely to the shore with the Custody in his hand. At the moment the wave was coming, he lifted the consecrated Host with firm hand and his heart filled with faith, and traced the Sign of the Cross. It was a moment of great solemnity.
Suddenly, the people, moved and amazed, shouted: "Miracle, miracle!" Indeed, as if it had been stopped by an invisible and superior force, the powerful wave that threatened to remove from the face of the earth the town of Tumaco, began to go back, while the sea returned to its normal level.
The inhabitants of Tumaco, amid the euphoria and joy for having being saved from death thanks to the Blessed Sacrament, showed signs of fervent gratitude.
