200 Copies of Cardinals' Book in Defense of Orthodox Teaching Got Lost in the Mail Before Synod

Guest Post by Manfred Ferrari
There were five brave musketeers, all of the ecclesiastical rank of cardinal. Their great concern was that in the Synod of Bishops in 2014 things were being decided, and they themselves could not accountable to God for it, so they forged a bold plan.
They decided in haste to write a book in which they would lay down their (conservative) opinion. In der Wahrheit Christi bleiben“ [Remaining the Truth of Christ] Thus the book has been translated into several languages, as well as in German language, a seemingly impossible task, since the date of the synod was approaching. In Germany there was the Echter (Real) publishing house, which was up to the task. As the saying goes "Nomen est Omen" ... Those who today find the book in their publishing prospectus, which has so cleverly hidden the work of 5 cardinals that only historians seem to find it.
The five prelates, among whom Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Prefect of the Congregation,  is recorded as an author, prepared themselves to send their books to the * 200 addressees in the Synod Hall *. Diligent priestly hands laced together the packages and handed them over to the foresight not of the Vatican post, but the Italian government post. A brave decision, but the latter is considered to be rather sluggish and unreliable (As an example: ... the writer received two weeks before had received a letter back that he had sent Cardinal Roger Etchegaray three months earlier, with the comment: unknown recipient). But the agile Cardinals did not calculate their bill with the host, ie with the Synod Secretary Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, who did not approve of the action of the illustrious Cardinals.
The 200 packs disappeared mysteriously, in any papal cellar archive or were perhaps even destroyed. Only two or three prelates found the book in their post. The enterprising Synod secretary was even compelled to complain to the governor of the Vatican, with the polite request to dismiss the director of the Vatican post ...
To make it clear once again it should be noted: This episode took place in the Vatican and not in the Kremlin. As I have told a friend who has traveled back in those days back to Africa this story, he smiled at me and said mildly, "Manfred why  are you angry. In South Sudan it's  not doing better ... Vatican Alleged to Have Intercepted Synod Book - Edward Pentin

A Vatican department allegedly intercepted over a hundred copies of a new book written by five cardinals to prevent it being read by the majority of participants of a synod last October called by Pope Francis. “Remaining in the Truth of Christ,” a commercially successful book reaffirming Catholic teaching on marriage and the family, was mailed to all the synod fathers in the Paul VI Hall, where the meeting was taking place. Reliable and high level sources allege the head of secretariat of the synod of bishops, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, ordered they be intercepted because they would “interfere with the synod.” A source told me that Baldisseri was “furious” the book had been mailed to the participants and ordered staff at the Vatican post office to ensure they did not reach the Paul VI Hall. Reports of the book’s interception have also appeared on German news sites in recent days. Those responsible for mailing the books meticulously tried to avoid interception, ensuring the copies were sent through the proper channels within the Italian and Vatican postal systems. The synod secretariat nevertheless claims they were mailed “irregularly,” without going through the Vatican post office, and so had a right to intercept them. The book’s mailers strongly refute this, saying they were legitimately mailed. Some copies were successfully delivered. The book, whose contributors included Cardinal Raymond Burke, then-head of the Vatican’s highest court, the Vatican’s doctrinal chief Cardinal Gerhard Müller, and church historian Cardinal Walter Brandmüller, aimed to counter arguments put forward by German Cardinal Walter Kasper who had proposed a way to admit holy Communion to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics. Latest News Update Get Newsmax TV At Home » Kasper had opened the deliberations for the meeting the preceding February, during which he presented possibilities for reforming the church’s pastoral approach in this area. Pope Francis is known to be sympathetic to the proposal, but has never publicly endorsed it. Opponents say the Kasper thesis would seriously undermine the church’s 2,000-year-old teachings on marriage — if it were ever approved. Some supporters of the Kasper proposal saw the book as a conspiracy against the Pope, despite Francis calling for a free and open discussion. The divorce and remarriage issue, together with arguments put forward for welcoming homosexual and cohabiting couples, caused much heated discussion during the Synod on the Family which took place in October. The issues are expected to be revisited at a second synod on the family, to take place in October this year. Sources say it’s not clear where the intercepted copies of the book ended up, but believe they may have been destroyed. Asked in December about the claims, Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said he “knew nothing” about the allegations and said the sources did not seem to him to be “serious and objective." Since then the allegations have become more widely known and have been corroborated at the highest levels of the church.

Vatican Alleged to Have Intercepted Synod Book - Edward Pentin

Here is another article from Edward Pentin's site.  Here is a transcript and recording of Pentin's "interview" with Kasper during the synod.  Pentin was in a group of other reporters, and Kasper didn't notice him among the group.

This is worth your time to read!

Statement on Cardinal Kasper

Excerpt:

Question:  The teaching does not change?

Kasper:  The teaching does not change but it can be made more profound, it can be different. There is also a certain growth in the understanding of the Gospel and the doctrine, a development. Our famous Cardinal Newman had spoken on the development of doctrine. This is also not a change but a development on the same line. Of course, the Pope wants it and the world needs it. We live in a globalized world and you cannot govern everything from the Curia. There must be a common faith, a common discipline but a different application.

Gives a new meaning to "the check is in the mail."  :-p

Why doesn't this surprise me any more?  :-p

This just gets worse and worse.  Dear God, have mercy on us all.  If they do manage to "define new rules" for marriage and family, I fear Heavenly displeasure will be speedily felt.  May God have mercy on us all.

I pray God's displeasure is quick and decisive.  We all need to prepare ourselves...for we know not the day nor the hour.
