Because St. Philomena refused nothing to her beloved Jesus, in turn He refuses nothing she asks for. St. Philomena is invoked for "anything" but especially in desperate or "impossible" cases.
O faithful virgin and glorious martyr, St. Philomena, who works so many miracles on behalf of the poor and sorrowing, have pity on me. Thou knows the multitude and diversity of my needs. Behold me at thy feet, full of misery but full of hope. I entreat thy charity, O great Saint! Graciously hear me and obtain from God a favorable answer to the request which I now humbly lay before thee...(here specify your petition). I am firmly convinced that through thy merits, through the scorn, the sufferings and the death thou did endure, united to the merits of the Passion and Death of Jesus, thy Spouse, I shall obtain what I ask of thee and in the joy of my heart I will bless God , who is admirable in His Saints. Amen.

I had prayed for a cure for someone dear to me, but she died instead. But since she was so young and had been baptized, she went straight to Heaven to join St. Philomena there. Looking back, it would have been much worse for her to stay here on this earth as she had such severe genetic issues. I was being selfish, and St. Philomena knew that.
I was very edified by your story, DM. Thank you for sharing that. I have rarely gotten such direct answers to prayers, but when they do come.......wow!
St. Philomena, pray for us, esp for my naughty young adults who need re-conversion.

I has a similar experience Cathleen. About 15 or so years ago I prayed to her about 2 specific intentions. Not getting into details essentially it was as if she had played a joke on me about them. I later read she actually does that...plays jokes on some of her clients. So I thought o.k. I guess I am not meant to pray to you for myself so I have prayed to her all these years for others. BUT in April I finally decided to pray to her for a personal intention and I said to her please don't play any jokes about this. I asked her that if I received the prayed for intention from her intercession could she please see to it that I got the answer on May 13th specifically so I would know it was her. I got the answer to the prayer exactly on May 13th. Wow.
