Event Description

St. Joan of Arc is the Patroness of the Crusaders.  Please join us in this novena for her feast day.

St. Joan of Arc, filled with compassion for those who invoke thee; filled with love for those who suffer; heavily laden with the weight of my troubles I kneel at thy feet and humbly beg thee to take my present need under thy special protection.

(here mention your petition)

Grant to recommend it to the Blessed Virgin Mary and lay it before the throne of Jesus.  Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted.

Above all, obtain for me the grace to behold God face to face, and with Mary and thee, and all the angels and saints, praise Him for all eternity.

O most powerful St. Joan, do not let me lose my soul but obtain for me the grace of winning my way to Heaven forever.   +Amen

Our Father.......Hail Mary......Glory Be

Nadia,

I read this fantastic book (written in 1929) which had in it the entire transcripts from her re-trial.  I was hooked on Saint Joan from then on.  Incredible how much times change but people don't seem to.  There was so much politics going on in the Church at that time.  Joan was up against so much it was mind blowing.

Sweet, holy Saint Joan of Arc, please pray for us.

Excerpt on the life of Saint Joan

On February 25, Charles received Joan at his château. Although the king disguised his rank, Joan, who had never seen him, found him among the lowliest members of his retinue and knelt before him.

"Gentle dauphin, my name is Joan the Virgin," she proclaimed, "The King of Heaven tells thee through me that thou shalt be crowned in the city of Reims and that thou shalt be the lieutenant of the King of Heaven, who is the true King of France."

Naturally, the earthly king required tangible proof. As Charles' mother had denied his legitimacy to appease the English, he was uncertain of his status. A few days earlier, he had begged God to grant him a sign of his legitimacy. It was this intimate prayer that Joan revealed to Charles when they spoke alone. The king had received the sign he sought.

The king then sent Joan to Poitiers to be examined by a commission of theologians. When they too demanded a sign, she replied, "In the name of God, I have not come to Poitiers to give signs. Take me to Orleans and I will show you the signs for which I have been sent."

I remember Fr Lafitte pointing out that had St Joan not obeyed God France would have fallen to the English and then at the reformation France would have ceased to be Catholic. Thank you Dawn Marie for the informative piece about St Joan.

Again poor odds to show that the victory is God's.

Dawn Marie,

Thank you for this interesting excerpt which remembers us the beginning of Joan's crusade. Everything sounds exact, except the distance between Vaucouleurs and Chinon, which is, by the roads of today, and passing trough Orleans, of 544 km, that is 341 miles. Joan and her escort had to avoid the main roads, and to go to the south, so it was even longer.

And then, the King Charles was not very fair to her, and abandoned her. As a person, he was not fair to none : to his uncle René duc d'Anjou et comte de Provence, roi de Sicile,  to Jacques Coeur, who financed him largely, but he was a symbol for the kingdom, given to Clovis for his baptem, making France "the eldest daugnter of Church".
