Event Description

For all the sick and dying, and especially those who care for them

For all private intentions

O God, Who did endow St. Camillus with a special grace of charity for the relief of souls in their last agony, we beseech Thee, by his merits, to pour into our hearts the spirit of Thy love; that in the hour of our death we may overcome the enemy and deserve to win a heavenly crown.

Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with Thee, One God, forever and ever.

+Amen

O Glorious St. Camillus, patron of the sick poor, thou who for forty years with heroic charity did devote thyself to the relief of their temporal and spiritual necessities; be pleased to assist them now even more generously since thou art blessed in Heaven and they have been committed by Holy Mother Church to thy protection.  Obtain for them from Almighty God the healing of all their maladies or at least the spirit of Christian patience and resignation that may sanctify and comfort them in the hour of their passing to eternity.  At the same time, obtain for us the precious gift of living and dying after thine own example in the practice of Divine Love.   +Amen

St. Camillus was a giant of a man, both in stature and later in sanctity.   His mother Camilla was a very holy woman who had Camillus later in her life (some say when she was 50).  After she died, Camillus went to fight with his father in various armies as a mercenary soldier, where he picked up the bad habits of drinking and gambling.  After his conversion he became a priest and founded an order of priests to serve the sick, esp. the poor.  They are still known today as the Camillans.  He was the first to use a Red Cross on the habits of his priests.  Despite many painful physical aliments, including a painful ulcer on his leg and later a rupture in his abdomen, he served the sick for about 40 years.  He is one of the patron saints of nurses and also of penitent sinners.

St. Camillus, please pray for the sick persons whom we commend to thee.

Please put down the names of any sick people whom you would like us to remember during this novena and I will try to put them in above (hope there is enough room!)
