Event Description

As a special sacrifice the Crusaders of the Immaculate Heart would like to propose for the days of Advent an undertaking of pledges to recite the simple but powerful prayer “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee” for the salvation of poor sinners and to make reparation to Our Lord Jesus Christ and to His Most Holy Mother for our own sins, those of our families and those of our respective nations.

We are 100 in members so it seems not out of reach to attain a desired total of 33,000 in honor of the 33 years of Our Lord and Saviors life on this earth.  This would mean that if only 15 of us said this prayer 100 times each day we would exceed the hoped for 33,000.

We would begin this effort of prayer to Our Holy Mother, on November 27, 2011, the first Sunday of Advent and it would conclude on December 24th, the Vigil of Christmas.

If you would like to join in this endeavor please respond with your RSVP.  Once you have signed up you can send your weekly tally of prayers privately to Catherine Marie or Timothy Whitney (coordinators of this undertaking) via pm.

May God bless us all and may we all have a fruitful and holy Advent Season.

Therese K. is representing her family for this event.  They are 7 in number, so the total of those participating thus far is actually 22.

Deo Gratias!

Thank you for this wonderful Advent Sacrifice. This coming December 16th to December 24th, we will also start the traditional nine days dawn masses and novena to the Blessed Mother, commonly called in Filipino as "Simbang Gabi" or Missa de Gallo in Spanish or the mass of the rooster. Masses will be celebrated in all Catholic churches here as early as 4 am. It is also one form of Sacrifice because you need to wake up very early to attend mass. This novena, honoring Mother Mary, is a centuries-old tradition which helps us prepare for the birthday of Jesus Christ. SIMBANG GABI is one of the longest and most popular among the Filipino traditions in the country. In the olden days, the church bells start ringing as early as three o' clock waking people up so they can get ready for the four o'clock dawn mass. Today, the tradition of Simbang Gabi continues whether you live in the city or in the province. Simbang Gabi is not just a tradition that is celebrated because we need to do so. but it is the spiritual preparation for Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. The Simbang Gabi is also seen as a way of requesting blessings from the Lord,as most people believe that if one completes the whole series of nine dawn masses, wishes will be granted.

This is why I love her so much:

The fact that Saint Catherine rested her hands on the lap of the Blessed Mother did not make her a saint. She personally worked no miracles, nor did she practice externally heroic charity like other great saints. She was not materially poor as were the children of Fatima and Saint Bernadette... She sprang from upper middle class parents among the meadows and vineyards of Burgundy, France. Her father was an educated man and an excellent farmer living in the village of Fain-les-Moutiers not far from Djon. Her sanctity consists in half a century of faithful service as a simple Daughter of Charity.

Here is that story again:

Catherine lived the normal life of a novice of the Daughters of Charity until Advent. On Saturday, November 27, 1830, at 5:30 p.m., she retired to the Chapel with the other Sisters for evening meditation. Catherine heard the faint swish of silk... she recognized our Lady's signal. Raising her eyes to the main altar, she saw her beautiful Lady standing on a large globe.

The Virgin spoke, this time giving a direct order: "Have a medal struck as I have shown you. All whoThird Apparition wear it will receive great graces."

Catherine asked how she was to have the medal struck. Mary replied that she was to go to her confessor, a Father Jean Marie Aladel saying of this saintly priest: "He is my servant." Father Aladel at first did not believe Catherine; however, after two years, he finally went to the archbishop who ordered two thousand medals struck on June 20, 1832. When Catherine received her share of these first medals from the hands of the priest she said: "Now it must be propagated."

The spread of a devotion to the medal urged by Saint Catherine was carried out so swiftly that it was miraculous itself.

St. Catherine Laboure is my patron saint.  She is very special to me in more ways than one.   I think she had the initial vision of the Miraculous Medal on the evening before the first Sunday of Advent that particular year, but can't remember; I would have to look it up.

Yes the Feast of the MM and the start of Advent both fall on November 27th.  That's kind of neat.  Does Advent always start on the 27Th or does the date change from year to year?

(I love this image you posted of the MM and Saint Catherine Laboure)

So simple yet so powerful!  And this year, that Sunday (11/27) is also the Feast Day of the Miraculous Medal, correct?

That is what I am also thinking.  Dawn Marie  can correct us if we are wrong.
