In memoriam:
Robert DiCecco

The Regina Coeli House has received word that long-time pilgrimage guide and SSPX supporter, Mr. Robert DiCecco, passed away on August 7th. We present here a short memorial from Fr. John Young, who was well-acquainted with Mr. DiCecco. Requiescant in pace.

Bob DiCecco was well known by the seminarians and priests who attended and taught at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary while still in Ridgefield, Connecticut back in the 1980’s. Mr. DiCecco was a long-time parishioner of the seminary and St. Ignatius Retreat House. He was born December 31, 1940 and died on August 7, 2012. For 20 years Bob was a senior truck driver for Hertz Penske.
In 1986 he transported the entire seminary of St. Thomas Aquinas in one truck from Ridgefield to Winona. The following year, he moved the Carmelite Convent from Phoenixville, PA to Post Falls, ID. The humor of his two trips came when Bob passed through a weigh station in Ohio while carrying the seminary. The conductor [weight station operator – Ed.] at the station said that he was back heavy and inquired into the contents of the load. Bob responded “a seminary”.

Holy Land in 2011

Next year Bob was once again stopped at the same station for the same problem. The same conductor jokingly asked him, “and I bet this time you have a convent?” The conductor could not believe his eyes upon opening the back of the truck. “Just get out of here,” he told Bob, “I don’t want to get in any trouble with God.”

In 1993 Mr. DiCecco and his wife Christine organized the St. Pius X Pilgrimage Company. They went many times to the Holy Land. Bob’s last trip was in 2011. Christine DiCecco will continue with the tours to the Holy Land in honor of her late husband; the next is scheduled for early February 2013.

May the many pilgrims who accompanied the DiCecco’s during the years please pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Robert.
