According to an early reconstruction of events from incomplete information, 65 year old Fr. Luigi Plebani dies after being shot during a robbery at his home.
He was ordained priest in 1973, vicar co-operator in Erbanno, in the Italian province of Brescia until 1975 and in Saint Pankraz in Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region, until 1979.
Fr. Plebani had been working as a missionary in the Diocese of Ruy Barbosa, in Brazil’s north-eastern state of Bahia, since 1980. The missionary, who was born in Rudiano (Brescia) in 1947, was due to return to Italy permanently in a few months time.
Local Brescian newspaper Il Giornale di Brescia reported that the news came as a blow to the communities of Rudiano and Saint Pankraz. During the 70’s, when Fr. Plebani was still living there, a number of charity events had been held to raise money for his mission in Brazil.
