ACT OF REPARATION FOR THE REPETITION OF THE PUBLIC SCANDAL OF ASSISI

Green Heights Business and Convention Center: Diversion Rd., Buhangin Davao City

Monday October 17,  5:30PM

Not once but several times this year, the Supreme Pontiff, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, the true successor of St. Peter and holder of the keys of the Kingdom of heaven, has announced his intention "to hold a Day of reflection, dialogue and prayer for peace and justice in the world" (Vatican Press Office, Communique of 2 April 2011), and to make himself “a pilgrim to the town of St. Francis" in order to promote "Religious Freedom, the path to peace." (Benedict XVI, Jan. 1, 2011)

The Pope's words and his plan cause us great sorrow because our forefathers and the previous popes spoke of Catholics meeting with false religion in these terms "it is clear that the Holy See cannot on any terms take part in their assemblies (false Religions), nor is it anyway lawful for Catholics either to support or to work for such enterprises; for if they do so they will be giving countenance to a false Christianity, quite alien to the one Church of Christ.  Shall we suffer, what would indeed be iniquitous, the truth, and a truth divinely revealed, to be made a subject for compromise?  For here there is a question of defending revealed Truth.  Jesus Christ sent His Apostles into the whole world in order that they might permeate all nations with the Gospel faith... So, Venerable Brethren, it is clear why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting  the return to the one true Church of Christ..." (Pius XI, Mortalium Animos, Jan. 6, 1928)

But Our Holy Father in contrast to his predecessor teaches that we are: "to solemnly renew the commitment of believers of every religion to live their own religious faith as a service to the cause of peace."  (Benedict XVI, St. Peter's Square, Jan. 1, 2011)

Can anyone justify this contradiction between Pope Pius XI and our present Holy Father?  Can any Catholic remain silent when the Truth of Faith is contradicted by this new practice?  St. Paul admonished St. Peter:  "when Cepas came to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed... when I saw that he walked not uprightly according to the truth of the Gospel." (Gal. 2:11)  St. Paul also instructed St. Timothy:  "Oh Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding the profane novelties of words, and oppositions of knowledge falsely so called." (I Tim 6:20)  And as for his instructions to Priests in general he said: "Here now it is required among dispensers that he be found faithful."? (I Cor. 4:2)  And that the future should always agree with the past in matters of Faith.  He added again: "But though we or an angel from heaven preach a gospel to you other than that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema." (Gal. 1:8)

Let every Catholic repeat these words of the Creed:  "I believe in the Holy Catholic Church," Let then no Catholic accuse us when we follow the teaching of St. Thomas: "If the faith be endangered, a subject ought to rebuke his prelate even publicly.  Hence Paul, who was Peter's subject, rebuked him in public, on account of the imminent danger of scandal concerning faith." (II, II; 33, a. 4)

Should not every baptized Catholic -- faced with the meeting of Religions at Assisi on October 27th --- weep and mourn both the humiliation of the Church and the praise of error in her very bossom?  We must not merely wring our hands in disbelief, but act on our firm Faith with the help of the Holy Ghost.  "For we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit himself asketh for us with the unspeakable groanings." (Rom. 8:26)

Therefore, deeply grieved and moved by these events, the Priestly Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) will have a Conference and offer an act of Reparation on Monday October 17th and Tuesday, October 18th, at 5:30PM at the Green Heights Business and Convention Center.  A Solemn High Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Bernard Fellay, followed by a Holy Hour to make reparation for this scandal.  We will also offer public prayers that Pope Benedict XVI will consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in union with all the Bishops of the world as Our Lady requested at Fatima.  All souls zealous for the honor of God and of His Church are invited to participate.

In Christ Our Sovereign King,

Fr. J. Timothy Pfeiffer, Fr. Joseph C. Pfeiffer, Fr. Alexander Hora
