New York Church Authorities Confront the Gay marriage Law

Same-sex "marriage" was approved by the New York State Senate and signed into "law" by Catholic Govenor Cuomo late July 24, the Feast of the St. John the Baptist (who was beheaded for his defense of marriage).

In this context the verses of Ps. 63 sound quite relevant:

Hear of God, my voice in my lament. Shelter me against the council of malefactors, against the tumult of evildoers, who sharpen their tongues like swords, who aim like arrows their bitter words, shooting from ambush at the innocent man, suddenly shooting at him without fear.

Bishop DiMarzio offered strong resistance, yet much too late, at this open attack on “the single most important institution in human history. [The Senate members] have passed legislation that will undermine our families and as a consequence, our society. What is needed in our state is leadership and not political gamesmanship.”

Archbishop Dolan lamented the irony of Cuomo hastening to pass the bill on the feast of St. John the Baptist “whom King Herod would behead because the saint dared to defend the God-given truth about marriage.” “If the experience of those few other states and countries where this is already law is any indication, the churches, and believers, will soon be harassed, threatened, and hauled into court for their conviction that marriage is between one man, one woman, forever, bringing children into the world... The true aggressors have proven to be the gay “marriage” lobby. The problem is not homophobia but theophobia―a hatred by some of God, faith, religion, and the Church.” These are worthy episcopal statements and unfortunately prophetic of a hard future for New York children.

However, why was there no public refusal of the Church sacraments to all Catholic senators involved with this Herodian tragedy, the governor and all others? Should they not be publicly banned from Holy Communion those who publicly and scandalously offend the most sacrosant Church morals? God always demanded that public crimes be expiated with public reparatory ceremonies and certainly with public remonstrances to bad Catholics legislators, who are God’s traitors!

Moreover, in a non-committal response, the same archbishop explained without reserve to homosexuals: “Yes, I love you. Each morning I pray with and for you and your true happiness and well-being... If I have offended any of you in my strenuous defense of marriage, I apologize, and assure you it was unintentional." But what is the primary motive? Is it to help people with unnatural temptations realize what will help them find "true happiness"? Or is it primarily an effort not to offend? In an age where the truth, especially about these issues, is often offensive, may we dare ask whether our modern prelates believe the truth will set people free?

No, we must never offend anyone we love by speaking the truth. The better thing to say would have been. "I love you and that is why I will tell you the truth. Somebody needs to tell you the truth. It is part of my vocation and dire obligation to tell you the truth."

Indeed. A most dire obligation.

Title from the SSPX.org page : Pastor's Corner: New York Church Authorities Confront the Gay marri...

That's a pretty funny title. Just how does one confront something from the rear? It's a done deal. It's already done and the first sets of sexually confused have taken their faux vows.

It is not "gay". It is not a "marriage". It is not "Law".

They aren't gay. They are Homosexuals and Lesbians.

It isn't marriage. It isn't even a union. A sneaker and a cowboy boot are not a pair of shoes.

It isn't Law. Law is based on morals and morals come from God. It is only another evil dictate to be condemned and rejected.

Gay is the morning with flowers and dew

Marriage of man-woman, not two of you

law is but Law when of Ten Commandments

So use not words devils twist when they spew

Adrienne,

The quote you included from St. John's Gospel, about Pilate saying to Our Lord, "What is truth?" reminded me of something I read somewhere once, about how Pilate said that and then turned his back on Truth Himself.  It was rather sobering because then the book reminded us of how we so often also turn our backs on Truth (Our Lord) and then go from compromise to compromise (like Pilate), and finally denial and betrayal of Our Lord.   It just seems like things keep going from bad to worse because so many are turning their backs, like Pilate, to Truth.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us poor sinners.  Give grace, light and strength to Our Holy Father, that he would FINALLY consecrate Russia to Thy Immaculate Heart.

Great post, Z!  Count on our Little Warrior Queen to hit the nail on the head!
