RORATE CAELI

Rorate has learned and can exclusively confirm that Bishop Bernard Fellay, the Superior General of the Society of Saint Pius X (Fraternité Sacerdotale Saint Pie X - FSSPX / SSPX), was received by Pope Francis in the Domus Sanctae Marthae sometime in the past few months. In order to protect our sources, we cannot detail the date and persons involved in the meeting, but only generally locate it in time - if the current pontificate so far can be divided into two halves, the meeting took place in the second half.

We can also add as part of this exclusive information that it was not a merely fortuitous event - that is to say, many off-the-record meetings with His Holiness have taken place since his election precisely because his being at Saint Martha's House make him much more accessible and available than many previous pontiffs. No, that was not the case at all - the pope was previously duly informed and duly met Bishop Fellay. The meeting was apparently short and cordial.

The Pope has a true interest in resolving this situation, it seems to be understood by our sources.

Not even one of Cathleen's jokes could perk me up after that, I am shattered

12-MAY-2014 08:29 GMT UPDATE: We apologize for having first erroneously reported that Bp. Fellay himself, as well, attended Francis’ Novus Ordo “Mass". The news report does not say this but specifically says that only Bp. Fellay’s two assistants, Fr. Pfluger and Fr. Nely, did. There is no excuse for us getting this wrong, so we immediately make this correction and apologize. While this renders the story less explosive than before, it is nevertheless still extremely revealing and disturbing that Bp. Fellay’s two immediate assistants now have no problem attending the ‘New Mass.’ Will Bp. Fellay denounce this? Will he remove the two assistants and discipline them? Watch very closely what happens now, for Bp. Fellay may perhaps agree with their action.

Well I'd like to say I feel better with the correction Peter but somehow I don't.

As Adrienne said we'll watch and pray.

If it makes anyone feel better the official statement from DICI is essentially this:  The story is true with the exception of +Nely and +Pfluger attending the pope's "mass".

Yes agreed, but to have assisted at the novus ordo would be to make a bad situation worse.

Hope he had a long spoon to sup with..

Perhaps the "hoopla" is really over nothing at all.  I guess people are going to believe what

they are going to believe, charity not withstanding.

(Source: SSPX/MG - DICI 05-12-2014)

On May 10, 2014, the English blog Rorate Caeli published under the pseudonym "Adfero", some "exclusive information" whose sources could not be—according to him—disclosed. This "exclusive information", spread by the media, revealed that Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, met with Pope Francis. On May 11, the Roman agency I.Media published that Bishop Fellay’s two assistants, Fr. Niklaus Pfluger and Fr. Marc-Alain Nely, had attended the pope’s private Mass.

Frs. Pfluger and Nely have never attended the pope’s private Mass, and journalists who claim otherwise would have a hard time to indicate the day of the alleged assistance. Here are the facts:

On December 13, 2013, Bishop Fellay and his assistants went to Rome for an informal meeting at the request of the Ecclesia Dei Commission. Following this interview, the Secretary of the Commission, Archbishop Guido Pozzo, invited his counterparts for lunch at St. Martha House's dining room where they were joined by Archbishop Augustine Di Noia, Assistant Secretary of the Congregation of the Faith. It is in this large refectory that the Pope takes his daily meals, away from other guests.

Archbishop Pozzo insisted on introducing Bishop Fellay to the pope while the latter was leaving the refectory. There was a brief exchange where Pope Francis said to Bishop Fellay, according to the usual polite formula, "I’m very glad to meet you." To this, Bishop Fellay answered that he was praying a lot, and the pope asked him to pray for him. Such was the "meeting" that lasted a few seconds.

In the interview he gave to Le Rocher (April-May 2014), Bishop Fellay answered the following question:
Has Rome made an official approach to renew contact with you since the election of Pope Francis?

Rome made a ‘non-official’ approach to renew contact with us, but nothing more, and I have not asked for an audience as I did after Benedict XVI’s election. For me, things at present are very simple: we stay as we are. Some concluded from my close contact with Rome in 2012 that I regard the necessity of a canonical recognition as a supreme principle. Preserving the Faith and our traditional Catholic identity is essential and remains our first principle."

If I can make some observations.   Whether or not they assisted at Francis mass makes a difference only in so far as doing so would make this already bad situation worse.

For Bp. Fellay to say that he was called for an informal meeting is being vague.  One if it was a meeting with the E.D.C it is already not informal.  It is formal.  I assume he is downplaying the meeting itself because he kept it secret and now it is not.

The second observation is this: When I spoke with BPF in the spring of 2011 he said the talks had failed, that everything was cold with Rome now that they were over.

Two things to consider here.  What does that mean, the talks failed?  It means that the SSPX presented to Rome sound Doctrine, sound Catholic Doctrine and Dogmas of the Faith and Rome rejected it.  It ended in frustration on both sides with Rome saying we must agree to disagree.

Sound Catholic Doctrine and Dogma is not something Rome and the SSPX have the luxery to agree to disagree on.  It is the very cornerstone of any possible agreement that Rome bend the knee to the Catholic Faith, something they refused to do.

In that case if after 18 months of going back and forth Rome clearly was not converted all talks and all approaching them or them approaching us should have ended.  From that point there is nothing further to discuss and no further contacts at this time need be made.  Why continue to do so?  To what end?  For what purpose?

Now since then Bp. Fellay has changed his stance from saying that an agreement with Rome before settling Doctrine is suicide----TO---(now saying) an agreement with Rome is necessary and we must put ourselves in the hands of Rome as quickly as possible or we risk becoming a parallel church or sede's.

So that Bp. Fellay is supping with DaNoia a known heretic and blasphemer against the Blessed Virgin and with Msgr.Pozzo who was part of the talks of 2009-2011 and who was with the rest of his bunch claiming they could not agree is very unsettling.

When ABL understood that there was nothing more to be said to Rome so long as they did not come back to the Faith he declined from that point onward until his death any further talks with them.  He did not meet with them in secret and he did not claim that the SSPX must put themselves in their hands or risk becoming a parallel church.  He left them alone.

So this meeting is of grave significance no matter how much the SSPX leadership tries to downplay it.

A few things that worry me about the response from Dici

Why would Rorate Caeli publish something that was not true. Have Rorate Caeli had a falling out with the SSPX? I guess they have now and I suspect more to come….

I would have been happy if the statement had said ‘Fathers Pfluger and Nely have never attended the Pope’s private Mass or any other N.O. Mass when they were in rome.’ Did not Bishop Fellay attend a N.O. Mass in France?

After hearing first that Bishop Fellay’s Lawyer, Fr Angles was in talks with  rome, and now the three top brass of the SSPX are in rome, it really does not matter whether or not they assisted. It still smells like a three day old roadkill in summer, that remind me lunchtime.

I am sad to say that after 30 years of being loyal to the SSPX, 10 of those being a Brother I cannot take statements from SSPX without seeing it full of blatant ambiguity.

Bishop Fellay says “For me, things at present are very simple: we stay as we are.” So why the need to visit rome. Is this not something that can be made clear to rome over the telephone. Something to the effect that we respectfully decline any invitations till we are able to talk in terms of the true sense of Tradition.

Bishop Felley has already been deceived once,  so why go back for another dose. Maybe the only place he can hide from our Cathleen.

What a Diabolical Confused Mess!

It just goes to show you that not one of us is immune, not even the high ups in the SSPX.

Pray the Rosary and ask for the grace of humility! Our Blessed Mother loves a humble heart,

that is the only way we will be able to discern what is clear and what is muddy.

(among other things)

LOL Peter

Sorry Beverly if you are upset about my road kill joke, but seriously the poor buggers don't feel much pain, unless it's a kangaroo and then it's you that feels the pain. If its Cathleen well I can sort of understand that you would be upset with her she is always picking on me too

If it is about the rest of my remarks please understand that I was talking objectively not subjectively which would have been wrong..

I don't generally post SSPX news because invariably there is always someone who resorts to the kind of behavior displayed by Beverly. (Whose comments can no longer be seen as she has been removed from the Crusaders).

It seems only and always to cause division.

I tried to see if it could be posted without it causing so much trouble but apparently it can't.

It seems best to close this discussion and keep with the former rule of no SSPX news of this nature.

Sorry to all the other members who were courteous and reasoned but not everyone is like that unfortunately.

We are after all a site for prayer first and all this upsetness over this kind of thing just isn't worth it to me to deal with.
