Litany of Saint Paul the Apostle

Antiphon: You have probed me, and you know me: you know when I sit and stand.

V. The great Saint Paul, the vessel of election, is indeed worthy to be glorified.

R. For he also deserved to possess the twelfth throne.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: spare us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: graciously hear us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.

Let us pray.

O God,
who has taught the whole world
by the preaching of blessed Paul the Apostle:
grant that we, who celebrate his memory,
may by following his example be drawn to you.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.

R. Amen.

This litany was taken from that golden vein of old litanies, the Golden Manual, compiled from approved sources and published in 1851 by D. & J. Sadlier & Co. However, the Antiphon, Versicle and Response have been inserted and at the end the Collect of January18 in place of a prayer to St. Paul has been substituted.

Thank you for posting this most beautiful Litany to St. Paul.  When in Rome we will be visiting St. Paul's Basilica Outside the Walls on September 1st. His remains are there however the skull of his head is at St John Lateran, which we will be visiting also.  I am printing out this Litany to prepare to see St. Paul!
