Fr Robert Brucciani writing in the July-August, 2018 Newsletter of the UK SSPX.
+
25th June 2018
Dear Mr. Thompson,
In your article
Archbishop Lefebvre’s surprising legacy
printed in the
Catholic Herald of 22nd June 2018, you accuse Archbishop Lefebvre of
stubbornness. Indeed, he was stubborn, but his was the stubbornness of a
St. Athanasius or a St. John Fisher fighting against heresy rather than that of
a bitter old man that you seem to infer.
You are surprised that his consecration of four bishops without a mandate has
borne fruit, but how could it be otherwise? Archbishop Lefebvre was doing
his duty as a Catholic bishop: passing on what he had received. He was the
champion of Catholic doctrine against the revolution that was the Second
Vatican Council. That the Second Vatican Council was a revolution is a boast
of its own architects; that it was not inspired by the Holy Ghost is evident
from its fruits which are rotten.
Archbishop Lefebvre believed that the restoration of the Catholic priesthood
was the means by which the crisis is the Church would be resolved and he
founded the Society of St. Pius X for this end. Its continued survival and
growth shows that it is thus-far blessed. It now exists in a canonical limbo,
but this is not of choice. It wishes to be secure and free to preach and practice
the faith within the visible structure of the Church, but this is not possible
through no fault of its own.
We are made as the refuse of this world, the
offscouring of all, even until now
, but that is our glory. The Society remains
free to remind the world of Catholic truths and is a bulwark against the
enemies of the Catholic faith within the hierarchy of the Church, for it is not
unreasonable to suggest that, if it failed, these enemies would not be slow to
declare open season on the Fraternity of St. Peter, the Institute of Christ the
King and all the other Ecclesia Dei communities.
One day, the decision of Archbishop Lefebvre to consecrate the four bishops
will be widely hailed as a heroic act of prudence and an example of obedience
to the higher law of doctrine rather than to the law of a man, even if that man
be the pope himself.
Thank you for asking for prayers for the repose of the soul of the Archbishop.
Please may your readers pray for his successors too.
Yours, in Christo Sacerdote,
Rev.
33 TRUTHS FOR MEDITATION TODAY

Amidst the innumerable errors of our day, which confuse minds and break down social life, we would like to publish these particularly disputed truths once and for all.
1. We can deduce from Creation the existence of a personal, eternal, almighty, omniscient and all-wise God . ( 1)
2. Jesus Christ has revealed this God to us. This God is Father, Son and Holy Ghost, one God in three Persons. There is no other God but Him, neither Allah, Buddha, nor the Great Architect of the Freemasons.
3. The Second Divine Person took a human nature and became like us in everything excepting sin alone. Jesus Christ is, therefore, true God and true Man.
4. Islam denies the Blessed Trinity, and logically the Incarnation, and again logically our participation in the life of the Triune God as Christ’s Brethren and co-heirs of God’s Kingdom .(2)
5. The other Eastern religions are just as perfidious, with their misleading practices, Zen meditation and Yoga; closely linked with the antichrist New Age Movement.
6. Mary the Mother of Jesus is truly the Mother of God. In view of this office, God, foreseeing the merits of Jesus Christ, preserved her from every stain of Original Sin. We honour her as the Immaculate Conception, she is the model of all created purity and beauty.
7. The ruin of the human race came through the sin of one couple. It is fitting, then, that the new Adam should have a new Eve; Jesus Christ and His most Blessed Mother are the parents of the humanity renewed in the Holy Ghost.
8. Mary was a virgin before the birth at Bethlehem, during the birth, and she remained so after the birth. Miraculously Jesus Christ came forth from her as light through glass, or as the Lord after His resurrection passed through closed doors. Her virginity is a great sign of hope.
9. The Society of St.Pius X has denounced the Swiss German Television company for showing Godard’s film “Je vous salue, Marie” on 28th November, 1990, in which Our Blessed Lady is mocked and insulted. A people who blasphemes God and the saints deserve not clemency and mercy, but punishment,
10. Jesus Christ is the only Redeemer of the world, who continually intercedes between God and man, the unique High Priest of the New Testament, the only King and Ruler of all things, The unconditional recognition of His all-embracing dominion, both from individuals and from society and nations, is the fundamental condition for a lasting peace, in people’s hearts and the world. Neither Perestroika nor sophisticated deterrents guarantee this peace, only the realization of the words of St. Paul: “He shall reign” (1 Cor. 15, 25). God will chastise the peoples who have fallen away from Him, until on their knees they cry out: “Glory, Laud and Honour be unto Thee, Christ, the Holy Redeemer”. (3)
11. If the peace demonstrators really want to serve the cause for peace in the world, let them
a) Work for Christian families, Christian schools and a Christian state;
b) Realize, and put into practice everywhere, as best they can, the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount;
c) Daily call upon Mary, the Queen of Peace, in the Rosary, and
d) Demonstrate in St. Peter’s square in Rome for the consecration of Russia (by the pope and bishops) to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as the Mother of God asked in Fatima.
12. By His sacrificial death on the Cross, Christ founded a Church, His Immaculate Bride, which He instituted to carry on His work of redemption in truth and peace after His return to the Father. He sends the Holy Ghost who teaches her, keeps her free from error, sanctifies and leads her. It is to her that He confides His whole teaching, law and means of grace, especially the sacrifice of the Cross and the seven sacraments, to celebrate and apply through the priesthood of the new covenant instituted by Him.
13. Holy Mass is the unbloody renewal of what happened on Calvary – a true sacrifice, not a community meal, and certainly no carnival. In Holy Communion, we receive Christ sacrificed for us, Who in the Host is truly, really and essentially present.
14. The Lord on the evening of His resurrection, instituted the Sacrament of Penance, as the sacrament of a spiritual resurrection from guilt and sin. In order to have sins forgiven, one must personally confess them. General penitential services may be a preparation for this; they have, however, no sacramental power, and thus intrinsically forgive no sin.
15. Priestly celibacy is an essential of the Church. The priest must remain in undivided love for the Lord; he must be free from all human attachments for the Kingdom of God. He should, by the offering of his life and renunciation of marriage and earthly love, give witness of the efficacy of Christ’s grace, and by his faithfulness be an example to married people. Besides, priestly celibacy keeps away from God’s sanctuary those who are not called to the priesthood.
16. The Church is both divine and human. She is One, Holy, catholic (or universal), Apostolic, and built upon the Roman pope as the representative of Jesus Christ on earth. He is infallible when he, as supreme pastor and teacher, irrevocably defines a question of faith and morals, which must then be believed by the whole Church.
17. The Church is missionary, not oecumenical, and enters into dialogue with those outside her fold essentially only for the sake of their conversion.
18. The Church is the Kingdom of God on earth. This we enter through Faith and Baptism, which takes away Original Sin, and makes us temples of the Holy Ghost, and participants in the divine life. In her we are reborn from water and the Holy Ghost, as true sons of God, brethren of Christ and co-heirs of Heavenly glory. Conversion, penance, faith in Christ and acceptance of all His commands are necessary for salvation.
19. We love with our whole heart those who are outside the Church and pray for them. For the sake of this love, we have to say to them that no confession or religion other than the Church founded by the God-man Himself is a way of salvation. In spite of the elements of truth and salvation they may contain, they nevertheless lead away either from Christ or from His Church.
20. The gathering at Assisi, 27th October 1986, was a tremendous scandal and leads many souls into error.
21. No one, absolutely no one will be saved merely because, naturally speaking, he is a nice person. One isa saved by faith, or one is not saved at all. (4)
22. The saints in Heaven are the already perfect part of the Church of Jesus Christ. This is particularly true for the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose body and not only her soul has been definitely glorified, and who in the beatific vision is the mediatrix for all graces.
23. Christ will come again at the end of time to judge the living and the dead. They who have believed in the Son of God and who have lived their lives accordingly, will enter into eternal life, the others will suffer eternal damnation
24. Truth, faith and morals are utterly immutable and objective, and oblige everyone in like measure; for God remains forever the same, as also Jesus Christ is always the same. Whereas human nature is the same for all peoples, cultures and ages, it is characterized by Original Sin, and without exception requires Redemption. Freedom does not create truth, but truth does create freedom.
25. Their common nature aside, God created man, individuals and peoples, unequal. This is particularly true for the inequality between man and woman. That is why present day ‘emancipation’ and feminism are against God’s order of creation.
Even in the supernatural order of salvation, there is inequality. In the parable, one servant received five talents, another two, and the third only one. (Mt.25, 14-30). There is only equality insofar as each individual receives the necessary graces for his own salvation.
The offices and duties in the Kingdom of God are also different. (5) Only one was called to be the Mother of God; only twelve were called to be apostles; only men are called to be priests. In the same way that men cannot bear children, so women cannot become priests.
26. One may also say without exaggeration, inequality of men, with superiors and inferiors, and every authority comes from God, equality from the devil.
27. The human soul is immortal and thus lives on after separation from the body, and after its individual judgement by God goes to Heaven, to a place of purification, or to a place of everlasting torment. The theory of absolute death is the invention of atheist theologians, reincarnation an unchristian way of thinking, which contradicts everything in the Gospel.
28. Man’s freedom is ordered towards truth and moral good. “What worse death for the soul is there than the freedom of error?”, asks St. Augustine.
29. Man therefore has no freedom to put an end to his life, even if it is one of great suffering and pain. Killing on demand is and remains murder.
30. Likewise the killing of an unborn infant in its mother’s womb is a crime and a sin crying out to Heaven for vengeance. The abortion pill RU 486 is to be considered in the same way. The estimated 50 million innocent children a year murdered throughout the world provokes God’s wrath.
31. With the whole Church, we reject categorically the theory of dissolubility of marriage. “What God has joined together let no man put asunder.” (Mat. 19,6). Equally sinful is living together before or outside marriage.
32. Contraceptives are man’s enemy; they prevent God’s blessings, damage the health, undermine marriage and destroy the family. Just as immoral are artificial fertilization and experiments on living human beings.
33. The human body after the separation fro the soul is destined, as with Christ, not for burning but for the resurrection. Cremation is inhuman and the invention of freethinkers who thereby wish to deny the resurrection of the body.

Let us listen to the evocative words of the Patron of Switzerland, Saint Brother Nicholas: “Remain firm in the faith of your fathers, for there will be great tumult in Christendom. Guard yourselves so that you are not deceived by the novelties and craftiness of the Devil. Keep together, keep to the footsteps of your pious fathers, keep and follow their teaching, thus attacks and storms will not harm you.”
Rickenbach, June 1991.
Notes:
(1) “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen – his everlasting power and divinity – being understood through the things that are made.” (Rom. 1,20).
(2) A quotation from a letter from an Islam extremist in Egypt shows clearly this fundamental incompatibility of the Church with Islam: “You Christian pigs, who insult your Almighty God with the making Him one of three, it is certain that you will be severely punished …Know this, you, near and far, young and old, priest and monk, that by your deeds you have condemned yourselves to death and the confiscation of your property. Your blood will be justly shed by Moslems and your money belongs to us. We will not idly stand by and watch your immorality and blasphemies. We know very well how to terrorize people like you and how to prepare an end for you cross worshippers (…). You will not escape our sword, thirsty for vengeance (…)
(3) Acclamation for Palm Sunday
(4) “Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.” (Jn.3,5).
“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” (Jn.14,6).
“He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned.” (Mk.16,16).
Peter gave as an answer to the Jews who asked the apostles how he cured the lame man: “ In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in His name does He stand here before you …Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under Heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4, 10-12).
(5) Cf.
Here is an article written in Catholic Family News in 2002 on this subject. The following article states that THE BODY OF PADRE PIO WAS FOUND TO BE MISSING during the exhumation on May 2, 1999.

Saint Padre Pio's Body Not Found in His Tomb?
Catholic Family News
October 2002
Anne McGinn Cillis

An astounding piece of news has recently come to light, which very well might be the most spectacular of all the miracles attributed to the now-canonized Saint Padre Pio. [Padre Pio was canonized on June 16, 2002. His feast day is September 23.]

Reportedly, an exhumation was conducted by order from the Vatican, preparatory to his Beatification in Rome on May 2, 1999, and overseen by Silvio Cardinal Oddi [+ June 23, 2001] and other required canonical witnesses.

Padre Pio's tomb is encased in Italian marble weighing three tons, originally lowered by a crane over the casket of the Saint, and then cemented to the concrete floor of the crypt in the Capuchin church of Santa Maria della Grazie, attached to the monastery where Padre Pio lived for over fifty years, and who died there in his cell. When the coffin in which his body had been laid to rest after lying in state in the church sanctuary, was opened in the presence of witnesses, it was found to be completely empty, except for three notable items.

These items were: his robe, his white cincture and his Franciscan sandals. There was no dust, nor residue of deteriorated remains. Nothing. Only the above mentioned items.

John McCaffery [R.I.P.], the author of The Friar of San Giovanni: Tales of Padre Pio, was a close friend of Padre Pio. John was also a dear friend of this writer.

Once he told me a fascinating story. "I am only a poor monk who prays," Padre Pio used to say to John, and the sight of vast throngs milling about outside his monastery, truly consternated and perplexed him, so great was his humility.

"Oh Padre " said John "I know that thousands do come. But after you die, pilgrims coming here will be in the millions!"

Apparently, Padre Pio looked at him with a strange expression. "John," he said slowly, emphasizing every word, "Let them come! I will not be here!"

I was to have on occasion over the many years that would pass, to ponder, and wonder what these strange words of Padre Pio to my friend, John McCaffery might mean.

This writer has interviewed three prominent and credible traditionalists regarding the origin of this amazing story of the empty tomb in the crypt of Padre Pio's church, in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy.

All three agree that at the time of the exhumation, "Nothing was said, except they closed the coffin and told everyone nothing."

Father Carl Pulvermacher, OFM, Cap., well-known in the United States and Canada, and who will celebrate his Golden Jubilee of Fifty Years of Priesthood on September 3 of this year, has corroborated this story, and referred me to Robert and Christine di Cecco in Connecticut. I have spoken to both these persons, and apparently the late Cardinal Oddi related the facts to a priest named Chamoine de Porta from France who was the Cardinal's close friend. Chamoine de Porta is also a close friend of Christine di Cecco's family, and told the di Cecco's this story.

Witnesses were evidently told to remain silent as it appears the monks now occupying Padre Pio's monastery did not want this news to be known. If true, one wonders why.

San Giovanni Rotondo is now totally Novus Ordo [against everything that Padre Pio stood for]. Saint Padre Pio is a hero of the restoration of true Catholicism. He wanted nothing to do with the post-Conciliar liturgical revolution and said the Tridentine Mass until the last day of his life.

Readers are encouraged to write to Catholic Family News if they have any information that either challenges or confirms this remarkable story.
Below are two quotes from articles taken on the exhumation done in March, 2008. Now if the article above is true- if the body was missing in 1999, then whose body was found in March of this year, 2008? And if one is to believe that the body has been missing, then the quotes in red would lead one to believe that the "powers that be" are trying to disguise another man's body for that of Padre Pio. This could then be the reason why there may be truth to an impending punishment coming on San Giovanni Rotundo. But why the cover-up????

Body of controversial saint Padre Pio exhumed for public display 40 years after his death http://www.padrepio.org.au/StPadrePio.htm
By NICK PISA - Last updated at 16:19pm on 4th March 2008

The exhumation was authorized by the Vatican in January and was granted so that Padre Pio's body could be "prepared" when it is put on public display next month to commemorate the anniversary of his death 40 years ago. Local Archbishop monsignor Domenico D'Ambrosio, who was present at the exhumation, said: "The upper part of the skull was skeletal while the forehead was in perfect condition. "The rest of the body is also well preserved. You can clearly see the beard, knees, hands, the nails - if Padre Pio will forgive me it's as if he has just had a manicure.

Popular Italian Catholic saint exhumed 40 years on

Mon 3 Mar 2008, 9:48 GMT By Philip Pullella

ROME, March 3 (Reuters Life!) - The body of the mystic monk Padre Pio, one of the Roman Catholic world's most revered saints who died 40 years ago, has been exhumed to be prepared for display to his many devotees. The body of the Capuchin friar, who was said to have had the stigmata -- the wounds of Christ's crucifixion -- on his hands and feet -- is to be conserved and put in a part-glass coffin for at least several months from April 24.A Church statement said the body was in "fair condition", particularly the hands, which Archbishop Domenico D'Ambrosio, who witnessed the exhumation in the southern Italian town where Pio died, said "looked like they had just undergone a manicure". A spokesman for the monastery at San Giovanni Rotondo said he believed morticians would be able to conserve the face of the bearded monk well enough for it to be recognisable. The body, which had been buried under marble in a crypt, was exhumed during a three-hour service that ended after midnight.

In conclusion, we would like to say that we just spoke to Ann Cillis, and she again declares that all of the information in the above article is true to the best of her knowledge. She also reminded us that there has never been a First Class Relic of Padre Pio made available to the public either.
Saint Anthonys Brief

THE BRIEF OR BLESSING OF SAINT ANTHONY

A case of diabolical obsession, that yielded to the power of St Anthony of Padua, was recorded in Portugal during the reign of King Denis.

Under the guise of a heavenly visitant, the devil frequently appeared to a woman of Lisbon and urged her to throw herself into the river Tagus in order to obtain the remission of her sins and eternal happiness.

The tormented woman at length decided to drown herself. Passing a Franciscan chapel on her way to the river, she entered, and kneeling before the altar of St. Anthony, implored the Saint to help her save her soul. Overcome by fatigue, she fell asleep.

During her slumber St Anthony appeared to her, revealed the deceit of the "father of lies" and released her from the obsession. On awaking, the woman found a letter which the Saint had given her during the vision. It contained the prayer now known as the "Brief of St Anthony." The original of Saint Anthony's Brief was preserved with the crown jewels by the King of Portugal. Pope Sixtus V caused the efficacious lines to be inscribed on an obelisk, which he had erected in the quadrangle in front of Saint Peter's.

SAINT ANTHONY'S BRIEF

Behold the Cross of the Lord!
Fly, ye powers of darkness!
The Lion of the tribe of Juda,
the root of David, has conquered.
Alleluia!

It is a devout practice to wear this blessing known as Saint Anthonys Brief on one's person, or to put it up in the home, and often repeat it.

Passion of Christ comfort me! Comfort me for the day is long and weary, comfort me as I fight my up the path of life safe to the haven of Thy Sacred Heart. Comfort me in pain and sorrow and tribulation, comfort me when temptation rages around me and every hope seems lost. And when that last dread hour has sounded and my eyes are closing on this world of sin, Passion of Christ! comfort me then, and lead me gently to Thy Wounded Feet above. Amen

Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for Us!

Prayer for Happy Meetings

O Raphael, lead us towards those we are waiting for, those who are waiting for us! Raphael, Angel of Happy Meetings, lead us by the hand toward those we are looking for! May all our movements, all their movements, be guided by your Light and transfigured by your Joy.

Angel guide of Tobias, lay the request we now address to you at the Feet of Him on whose unveiled Face you are privileged to gaze. Lonely and tired, crushed by the separations and sorrows of earth, we feel the need of calling to you and of pleading for the protection of your wings, so that we may not be as strangers in the Province of Joy, all ignorant of the concerns of our country.

Remember the weak, you who are strong – you whose home lies beyond the region of thunder, in a land that is always peaceful, always serene, and bright with the resplendent glory of God.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Benedict Baur, O.S.B.

"Blessed art thou, O Mary!"

1. "The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways, before He made anything, from the beginning" (Epistle). Mary is likewise contained in the eternal Wisdom, who is to become man in time, who adorns her with His person, His purity, and His glory, and is most intimately united with her in His work on earth. God ordained the creation of Mary with the same act by which He willed the incarnation of His Son. “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways." God chose Mary from all eternity as the one from whom His Son, the eternal Wisdom…was to take His sacred humanity. By virtue of this intimate union with divine Wisdom and divine purity, she is herself possessed of unlimited purity, wisdom, and holiness.
In the liturgy she is presented to our wondering eyes clothed with divine wisdom, as the Seat of Wisdom. "Now, therefore, ye children, hear me.... Blessed is the man that heareth me, and that watcheth daily at my gates, and waiteth at the posts of my doors. He that shall find me shall find life, and shall have salvation from the Lord" (Epistle).

2. In today's liturgy Mary is the woman of fortitude who will crush the head of the serpent and will overcome singlehanded the ancient enemy of the Church and of the kingdom of God. Mary is the Judith of the new chosen people. She it is who rescues beleaguered souls from the hand of Holofernes. With hearts filled with joy and gratitude, we greet her on the day of her triumph over Satan and original sin. "Blessed art thou, O Virgin Mary, above all women upon the earth. Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, thou art the joy of Israel" (Gradual). Today thou shalt crush the head of the vile serpent who rages against thy Son and His people. We fly to thy patronage, O immaculate and victorious Virgin.
The liturgy presents Mary to us as full of grace. "At that time the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women" (Gospel) "Full of grace." "He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, and with the robe of justice He hath covered me, as the bride adorned with her jewels" (Introit). From the first moment of her conception she is enriched with more grace than the most highly favored angel or archangel in heaven. Richer in grace and more resplendent with supernatural beauty than the holiest of the saints of the Church, is this immaculate mother of ours. "Thou art all fair, O Mary."

3. "The stream of the river [the fullness of grace] maketh the city of God [Mary] joyful; the Most High hath sanctified His own tabernacle. God is in the midst thereof, it shall not be moved; God will help it in the early morning [at her conception]. . . . Come and behold ye the works of the Lord, what wonders He hath done upon the earth [in Mary] making wars to cease even to the end of the earth. He shall destroy the bow and break the weapons [Satan and original sin], and the shield He shall burn in the fire. Be still and see that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of armies is with us [in Mary]; the God of Jacob is our protector" (Ps. 45:5 ff.).
Purity is union with God. Purity is the strength that brings victory. Purity is the most precious of graces. "Blessed are the clean of heart" (Matt. 5:8). "Draw us, O immaculate Virgin."

PRAYER

O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin, didst make ready a worthy dwelling place for Thy Son: grant, we beseech Thee, that, as through the foreseen death of the same Son, Thou didst preserve His mother from all stain of sin, so may we likewise be pure in heart through her intercession and may come to Thee. Through the same Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.
Chennai Floodstag:op54rosary.ning.com,2015-12-07:5691517:BlogPost:2827552015-12-07T11:30:00.000ZNestor Carvalhohttps://op54rosary.ning.com/profile/NestorCarvalho

Does anyone know of the prophecy about St Thomas and the stone in India. The jist of it is that when he went there he laid a stone/rock a certain distance from the shore and said when the water reached the stone it would be the end of the world .I remember reading it in a Catholic magazine 10 or 15 years ago .Apparently the water is very close now. I think it is near St Thomas's Cathedral in India
www.divinemercypopes.com

NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

On a hillside, just outside what is now Mexico City, in the year 1531 the Virgin Mary appeared before an Indian farmer named Juan Diego, and asked him to see that a church be built there in her honor. When Juan Diego approached his Bishop with Our Lady’s request he was not believed and was driven out. The Virgin appeared to him again and directed him to a barren, stony place where she said he would find roses growing. He wrapped the roses in his cloak and brought them to the Bishop. When he unwrapped the roses, he discovered the image of the Virgin imprinted on the cloak. This time he was believed and a Basilica was built on the original spot.
The cloak, unfaded by time and authenticated by art experts as not being any work they can explain, is exhibited on the main altar of the new Basilica of Our of Gudalupe – the shrine that commemorates the miracle.

INTRODUCTION

The following Novena was composed by the late HELEN BEHRENS. She was an American who, until her death, spent many years operating an English Information Center, near the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. She was tireless in her efforts to promote devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, particularly as “ Queen and Mother of America.”

This Novena in English received the imprimatur of the proper Church authorities in Mexico City in 1956; and later the imprimatur of Archbishop Edwin V. Byrne ( now deceased ) of Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have found the Novena to be most effective, particularly in bringing about a solution to difficult and seemingly impossible problems. We recommend that you say it often, for Our Lady of Guadalupe truly does listen to the prayers of those who call upon her intercession.

FIRST DAY

The words of our Lady of Guadalupe spoken to the Indian Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, December 9, 1531:
“My dear son, whom I love tenderly; know that I am the Virgin Mary, Mother of the True God; the Giver and maintainer of life; the Creator of all things; Lord of Heaven and Earth, who is in all places. I wish a temple to be erected here, where I can manifest the compassion I have for the natives and for ALL who solicit my help.”
These your words my heavenly Mother, fill my heart with love and gratitude, with renewed faith and hope, because they were directed to me also. Therefore, I turn to you, confident of obtaining through your intercession, the graces which will enable me to live in accordance with the teaching of your Divine Son, Jesus, whom I desire to love with all my heart. You shared in all that my Savior suffered for me, therefore, I also belong to you, and you are my loving Mother.
Do not abandon me in this vale of tears; take pity, I beg you, on my poverty and necessities; have compassion on my anxieties and cares; assist and comfort me in all my infirmities and miseries.

(After the prayer for each day, say four Hail Mary’s, commemorating the four apparitions to Juan Diego; and the Memorare to Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is printed later in this leaflet.) [Printed at the bottom of this page]

SECOND DAY

The Merciful words spoken on the fourth and last visit to Juan Diego:
“ Do not let anything afflict you, and do not be afraid of any illness or accident or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Do you need anything else?”
These words were also directed to me and they fill my heart with gladness and hope. Turn then, most gracious Mother, your eyes of mercy towards me. Perfect me in your love, making it possible for me to put all my troubles and worries at your feet, knowing that you will remember that you are my Mother; that I am under your shadow and protection; and that you will obtain for me the consolation of which I am so much in need.
( Four Hail Mary’s.….Memorare)

THIRD DAY

When you visited Juan Diego’s dying uncle Juan Bernardino, curing him and telling him your name, “Immaculate Virgin Mary who crushed the serpent.” You filled the Indians’ hearts with joy. It told them that they no longer needed to make human sacrifices to their pagan gods.
Hail Holy Queen, merciful Mother, Hail! Our life, our sweetness, our hope!
Permit me to join in the songs of praise that, to this day, this whole nation sends up to your throne; many coming long distances to offer you gifts and prayers.
Pray for us Holy Mother of God, exterminate the SERPENT OF EVIL from our lives, that we may be madder worthy of the promises of Christ, your Divine Son.
(Four Hail Mary’s…..Memorare)

FOURTH DAY

When the Indians saw the admirable image representing you, which you left on Juan Diego’s tilma, they recognized it to be a picture-writing, containing a celestial message which was directed to them. Your regal figure in the form of a human being. Taught them that your dwelling place at one time must have been on earth. The rays of the sun, the clouds which surround your body, the stars on your garment, the crescent under your feet, the Angel who transports you through space, all denote that your present abode is in Heaven, and called their attention to the immortality of the human soul.
O Holy Mary, as your image on the garment of Juan Diego taught the Indians, so let it teach me never to forget the immortality of my soul, that Heaven is my goal and my inheritance. Amid the temptations and miseries of this life, let me think always of this home of peace, of glory and eternal bliss.
(four Hail Mary’s.….Memorare)

FIFTH DAY

For centuries, the natives of Mexico had worshipped the sun, sacrificing countless human beings in its honor. But when they beheld your beautiful Image blotting it out, so that only its rays are visible, they understood the lesson that it was intended to convey.
After the Indians had heard your message, and read what your Image contains, they abandoned their false gods and embraced the loving doctrine of your Divine Son. Never have they ceased to give thanks for the great mercy that the Almighty God showered upon them, when He sent you to be their Queen, their Mother, and their teacher.
O Holy Mary, through the mystery of the Incarnation of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, wherein our salvation was begun, obtain for us light to understand the greatness of the benefit He bestowed upon us in becoming our Brother, and in giving you, His own venerated Mother, to be our Mother also.
(Four Hail Mary’s..…. Memorare)

SIXTH DAY

The fires that burned on the altars of the false gods were extinguished forever, after the Indians had contemplated your Image, and saw you clothed with the sky covered with stars. This showed them that the stars had been created by the Indivisible God to serve humankind and, therefore, could not be gods to whom adoration and sacrifice were due.
Most Holy Mary, who through your Image, stamped by God on the Indian’s garment, hast brought millions of pagans into the light of the true Faith, I beg you to obtain for me the grace of understanding the message it contains. Shed upon me the light of your countenance, direct and sanctify all my undertakings.
(Four Hail Mary’s….Memorare)

SEVENTH DAY

The emblem of our redemption, stamped upon the golden brooch fastened to your garment, served to tell the Indians that the religion of their conqueror’s was the one they were to embrace. The cross on the banner of Hernan Cortez and on the brooch was the same. When they saw it upon your Image , they flocked around the Spanish missionaries eager to know its meaning. They were told about the Savior, who came from Heaven to redeem the human race, through His death on the cross; and that you are the Virgin Mother of the Divine Victim, associated with Him in the mystery of our redemption. Happy the nation to whom you revealed yourself and God.
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, my Queen and Mother, more than four hundred and fifty years have passed since you spoke to Juan Diego, and so far, only a few of your children in other lands have become aware of the purpose of your Image on the altar of your shrine. Inspire us, then, to see in this miraculous picture, the instrument for the conversion of ALL to the Catholic Apostolic Faith, you who are the adorable Queen and Mother of all the Apostles, and of all Missionaries.
(Four Hail Mary’s….Memorare)

EIGHTH DAY

After Juan Diego had cut the flowers that had bloomed suddenly on the barren hill of Tepeyac, he brought them to you at the foot of the mount, where you were waiting. With your own hands you arranged them in his tilma, tying it around his neck, telling him to take them to Bishop Zumarraga, and that this sign would induce him to start building your temple. The last words which he heard from your adorable lips were: “You are my ambassador worthy of confidence; go in peace.”
The sacred picture, on the coarse cloth of the tilma, could not have been painted by human hands. It convinced the Bishop, as it ought to convince every person who looks at it, that Juan Diego’s message was truly yours.
Humbly I beg you, my Queen and Mother: Let me be your ambassador like Juan Diego, to give the doctrine contained in your Image to all my friends; to convince them also, whether they be believers or unbelievers.
(Four Hail Mary’s….Memorare)

NINTH DAY

O Holy Virgin, enthroned on the spot which you yourself chose, in the very heart of an idolatrous nation, you marvelously accomplished its conversion. After seeing your Image on the tilma of their countryman, Juan Diego, the Indians stripped their temples of all idols and built beautiful churches on whose towers gleaming crosses shone in the sun. The huge drum. Which innumerable times had announced human sacrifice in honor of their gods, was heard no more.
As Juan Diego spent the remaining seventeen years of his life in giving your spoken message to the Indians, so permit me my loving Mother, to help in making known your celestial message among my countrymen. Animate and bless all who join in the Apostleship and Novena, in order to propagate the Catholic religion among their friends, having as their banner your admirable Image on Juan Diego’s tilma, together with the cross, the emblem of our redemption.

I beg your special aid in procuring the conversion of (mention name)
(Four Hail Mary’s…Memorare)

MEMORARE TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin of Guadalupe, that in your heavenly apparitions on the mount of Tepeyac, you promised to show your compassion and pity towards all who, loving and trusting you, seek your help and call upon you in your necessities and afflictions. You promised to hear our supplications, to dry our tears, and to give us consolation and relief. Never has it been known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, either for the common welfare, or in personal anxieties, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, we run to you, O Mary, ever-Virgin Mother of the True God! Though grieving under the weight of our sins, we come to prostrate ourselves before your presence. We fully trust that, standing beneath your shadow and protection, nothing will trouble or afflict us, nor do we need to fear illness, or misfortune or any other sorrow.
You wanted to remain with us through your admirable Image, you who are our Mother, our health and our life. Placing ourselves beneath your maternal gaze, and having recourse to you in all our necessities, we need do nothing more.
Our Holy Mother of God, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer us.
Amen.
PRAYER TO ST PETER OF ALCANTARAtag:op54rosary.ning.com,2015-11-14:5691517:BlogPost:2790562015-11-14T08:30:00.000ZNestor Carvalhohttps://op54rosary.ning.com/profile/NestorCarvalho

:

Novena to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

We greet thee, O glorious Saint Nicholas, all-honoured hierarch, great wonderworker, saint of Christ, man of God, good and faithful servant, fountain of love, chosen vessel, strong pillar of the Church, shining lamp, star that illuminest and enlightenest the whole world!

Thou, O Father Saint Nicholas, art that righteous man who, according to the word of the Prophet, didst flourish like a palm tree planted in the courts of the Lord. Dwelling in Myra thou hast diffused the sweet–smelling fragrance of the grace of God in an ever-flowing stream of myrrh. By thy presence most holy Father, the sea was sanctified when thy miraculous relics were carried from East to West to the city of Bari, there to praise the Name of the Lord.

O marvelous wonderworker, speedy helper, fervent intercessor, good shepherd that savest the flock of Christ from all dangers, we glorify and magnify thee as the hope of all Christians. Thou art an ever–flowing spring of miracles, a defender of the faithful, a most wise teacher, a feeder of the hungry. Thou art the gladness of those that mourn, the clothing of the naked, the healer of the sick, the pilot of those that sail the sea. Thou art the liberator of prisoners, the provider, nourisher, and protector of widows and orphans, the guardian of chastity, the gentle tutor of little children, the support of the aged, the friend and advocate of monks, and the rest of those that labour. Thou, O Holy Bishop Nicholas, distributest riches in abundance to the poor and the needy who call upon thy name and beg for thy help.

Hearken unto us that pray unto thee and flee to thy protection. Plead on our behalf with the Most High, and obtain through thy God-pleasing intercessions all that is useful for the salvation of our souls and bodies; keep, through thy help, this holy monastery, every city and town, every Christian country, and the people that dwell therein, from all oppression, for we know, that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much for good; and after the most-blessed Virgin Mary, the all–holy Mother of God, we look to thee, O Father Nicholas, for help and, full of confidence, hasten to thy fervent intercession.

Do thou, as a watchful and good shepherd, keep us from all enemies, pestilence, earthquake, hail, famine, flood, fire, and violence. Protect us from the invasion of the godless, the perversions of the wicked, the contagion of illnesses, and from being destitute and penniless in the the hour of our need. In all our misfortunes and affliction do thou stretch forth a helping hand. Open wide to us the doors of God’s compassion for we, by reason of the multitude of our iniquities, are unworthy to knock at heaven’s door; we are bound by the knots of many sins; we have sinned again and again, and our hearts have grown hard and cold in disobedience to the divine commands.

Wherefore, on bended knee, we incline our hearts before Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore thy fatherly intercession with our all–merciful God. Lest we perish in our sins, deliver us from all evil and from every diabolical deceit; illumine our minds and strengthen our hearts in the pure light of the Orthodox Catholic Faith, in which, through thy mediation and intercession, we pray to be preserved free from all corruption, division, heresy, and shameful compromise with the enemies of the holy and life–giving Cross. Vouchsafe, O Father Saint Nicholas, that we may live a peaceful life in this monastery and, at length, rejoice to see the good things prepared for us in the land of the living, unto the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God, praised and adored in Trinity, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
